The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has facilitated the recovery and clearance of critical power equipment belonging to the Niger Delta Power Holding Company Limited (NDPHC), clearing a major hurdle in the execution of key electricity projects across the country.
The equipment, which had remained idle at various Nigerian seaports, is expected to be deployed for ongoing and planned power infrastructure projects, with the intervention also helping the NDPHC avert potential losses running into billions of naira.
The NDPHC Managing Director, Engr. Jennifer Adighije, disclosed this during a courtesy visit by the company’s management team to the NPA Managing Director, Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, and his management team in Lagos over the weekend.
Adighije described the NPA’s intervention as timely and significant, noting that prolonged delays in recovering and clearing the equipment could have disrupted project schedules, increased costs and further slowed efforts to improve electricity supply.
She said the equipment was urgently required for the execution of critical projects, stressing that ensuring contractors and project teams had timely access to essential materials was crucial to delivering infrastructure projects within schedule.
According to her, the NPA’s intervention had not only facilitated the release of the equipment but also protected the NDPHC from billions of naira in potential financial losses.
The NDPHC boss called for stronger collaboration among the NDPHC, NPA and other government agencies in the energy and maritime sectors to eliminate bureaucratic bottlenecks that could delay critical infrastructure projects.
She said the visit was also aimed at strengthening the strategic relationship between the two organisations and identifying areas where closer cooperation could improve the movement of power-sector equipment through the nation’s ports.
Adighije expressed appreciation to the NPA management for its cooperation and commitment to resolving issues affecting the clearance and movement of NDPHC consignments.
Responding, Dantsoho reaffirmed the NPA’s commitment to supporting government agencies and strategic stakeholders whose activities contribute to national development.
He congratulated the NDPHC on its contributions to the development of Nigeria’s power sector, stressing that reliable electricity supply remained essential to economic growth, industrialisation and improved living standards.
Dantsoho assured the NDPHC that the NPA would continue to facilitate the smooth movement and clearance of critical equipment, particularly consignments required for projects capable of strengthening Nigeria’s infrastructure and supporting economic development.
He also expressed the Authority’s readiness to deepen engagement with the NDPHC and other stakeholders to ensure that port-related challenges do not hinder the timely delivery of strategic national projects.
