The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has dismissed reports alleging that its National Chairman, David Mark, has resigned from office, describing the claims as false, malicious and politically motivated amid recent controversies surrounding the party’s leadership.
In a statement issued by the media office of the chairman, the party insisted that Mark remains firmly in charge and has no intention of stepping down.
“The assertion that Senator David Mark has stepped down exists only in the warped imagination of those bent on spreading falsehood and creating confusion within our party.
“There is no contemplation whatsoever of resignation either by Senator Mark or by the leadership of the ADC,” the statement stated.
The denial comes against the backdrop of recent developments involving the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which reportedly made changes affecting the recognition of some party officials, including Mark and former Osun State governor, Rauf Aregbesola, who is the party’s National Secretary.
The ADC, however, dismissed any suggestion that such developments had weakened its leadership structure, insisting that the party remains intact and united.
“Our leadership remains united, focused and resolute. No amount of propaganda can fracture the bond within the ADC or derail our mission to provide credible leadership for Nigerians,” the statement declared.
The party further alleged that those behind the rumours were acting out of fear of the ADC’s growing political influence ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“What we are witnessing is a desperate attempt by ‘puerile, weak and inconsiderate propagandists’ to sow discord in a party that is steadily gaining ground nationally,” it said.
Reaffirming its commitment to democratic ideals, the ADC warned against efforts to undermine Nigeria’s multi-party system.
“The ADC, its leadership, and the majority of Nigerians are unbending in their collective determination to resist any plot aimed at undermining Nigeria’s multi-party democracy or imposing a one-party system,” the party stated.
It urged Nigerians and party supporters to ignore what it described as baseless reports and remain confident in the stability of its leadership.
“Senator David Mark remains fully in charge, focused and determined. The ADC is strong, united and poised for victory,” the statement added.
