The member representing Ideato Federal Constituency of Imo State in the House of Representatives, Hon. Ikenga Ugochinyere, has intensified efforts to improve electricity supply in the constituency with the extension of his “Operation Light Up Ideato” initiative to three additional communities.
The latest phase of the project covers Ogwume, Dikenafai and Akpulu, where 500KVA transformers and other electricity infrastructure are being installed to strengthen power supply and address longstanding electricity challenges.
The development brings to seven the number of communities that have so far benefited from the initiative, following earlier interventions in Umuopia, Obodoukwu, Abukwa and Umukegwu.
In addition to the transformers, the ongoing intervention includes the installation of electricity cables and other critical components required to support effective power distribution within the beneficiary communities.
The expansion is expected to improve access to electricity for households and businesses while supporting economic activities at the grassroots.
Ugochinyere, who also chairs the House Committee on Downstream Petroleum, said the initiative was designed as a sustained intervention rather than a one-off project, with plans to extend the programme to more communities across Ideato North and South.
According to a statement issued by his media office on Friday, the continuing expansion reflects the lawmaker’s commitment to addressing infrastructure deficits in communities that have suffered inadequate electricity supply over the years.
The media office said additional communities identified as having critical power infrastructure needs would be considered in subsequent phases of the programme.
Ugochinyere also reaffirmed his determination to ensure that the intervention reaches every community in Ideato requiring electricity infrastructure, noting that the broader objective is to progressively reduce the power supply gap across the constituency.
