The Northern Senators Forum has congratulated the Government and people of Jigawa State on the ascension of His Royal Highness, Lawan Ahmed Mohammed, as the 17th Emir of Gumel Emirate, describing his emergence as a significant moment for the historic emirate.
The Forum, in a statement signed by its Chairman, Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’Adua, also commiserated with the people of Gumel Emirate over the death of the late Emir, His Royal Highness Alhaji (Dr.) Ahmed Muhammad Sani II, CON, whose 45-year reign was marked by service, peace and devotion to his people.
It said the late monarch left behind a legacy of stability and service, while expressing confidence that the new Emir would build on the foundations laid by his predecessor and provide purposeful traditional leadership.
The Northern Senators Forum particularly commended the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Jibrin Barau, for his support and participation in the delegation’s visit to Gumel.
The Forum also praised Senator Babangida Hussaini, Walin Kazaure, for hosting and facilitating the delegation’s visit on Friday, September 11, 2026, as well as other distinguished senators, traditional rulers, elected representatives and eminent personalities who participated in the condolence visit and reception for the new Emir.
According to the Forum, the new monarch possesses the academic accomplishments, practical expertise and years of service required to shoulder the responsibilities of the revered throne.
It noted that the Emir’s PhD in Computer and Communication Systems, coupled with his background in mathematics, computing, engineering and cybersecurity, would place him in a strong position to promote education, youth development, innovation and sustainable growth in the emirate.
The Forum assured the new Emir of its continued prayers, support and constructive engagement, while urging the people of Gumel Emirate to rally behind him in advancing peace, unity, development and prosperity. It prayed that Allah grants the monarch wisdom, good health, strength and divine guidance throughout his reign.
