The Northern Senators Forum has condemned the coordinated insurgent attacks on communities and military formations in Hong and Gombi Local Government Areas of Adamawa State, describing the incidents as an assault on the North and Nigeria.
The attacks, which occurred between the night of September 30 and October 1, reportedly claimed the lives of three soldiers of the 232 Battalion in Garaha-Mojili, a forest guard and civilians, while women and children were abducted and several communities affected.
In a statement signed by its Chairman, Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’adua, the forum expressed condolences to the bereaved families, the Adamawa State Government and residents of the affected communities.
The senators said the attacks also resulted in the burning of places of worship, destruction of property and the displacement of hundreds of families from communities including Garaha, Dabna, Bangna, Mubang, Zah, Bitirhuya, Kwapre, Mayo Ladde, Gaya-Dlang, Garkida, Boima and Guyaku.
The forum called on the Federal Government and Defence Headquarters to urgently reinforce security in the Kopre-Sambisa corridor and adopt a coordinated strategy to dismantle terrorist enclaves.
It also urged NEMA, the North East Development Commission and other humanitarian agencies to provide relief materials, medical care and trauma support to the displaced victims.
The Northern Senators Forum called on residents to remain vigilant and assist security agencies with actionable intelligence, assuring the people of Adamawa that they would not be abandoned to terrorists.
