The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HCSF), Mr. Olumuyiwa Enitan Abel, has reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to promoting gender equality, inclusive leadership and improved career opportunities for women in the public service.
Abel gave the assurance during a high-level strategy meeting with Heads of Cooperation and other stakeholders on accelerating gender equality and women’s empowerment in Nigeria, organised by UN Women at the UN House in Abuja.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Director of Press and Public Relations, Mrs. Eno Olotu, the HCSF highlighted the partnership between the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF) and UN Women, backed by a five-year Memorandum of Understanding signed at the 2026 International Civil Service Conference.
He said the agreement was designed to promote gender-responsive reforms and strengthen opportunities for women to advance into leadership positions within the public sector.
Abel also underscored the significance of the Inclusive Network for Supporting Progressive Leadership, Innovation, Reform and Equity for Women (INSPIRE), launched by the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, to provide mentoring, leadership development and professional advancement opportunities for women.
According to him, preliminary workforce analysis shows that women represent 43.84 per cent of the Federal Civil Service and 42.31 per cent of senior officers on Grade Levels 15 to 17.
He added that women account for 40.11 per cent of officers on Grade Level 17, highlighting the need for targeted measures to improve their representation in top leadership positions.
