The Northern Senators Forum has condemned the killing of worshippers, vigilantes, women and children in Binari community, Karim-Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State.
The attack, which occurred shortly after Juma’at prayers on Friday, October 23, was described by the Forum as barbaric.
In a statement issued on behalf of the Forum by its Chairman, Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’Adua, the senators commiserated with Governor Agbu Kefas, the people of Taraba State and the bereaved families of the victims.
The Forum said it received with shock the murder of innocent citizens and that it shares in the grief of the people at this difficult time.
It called on the leadership of the Police, the Department of State Services and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps to carry out a comprehensive security surge in the Karim-Lamido and River Benue corridor.
The Forum recommended the establishment of a Forward Operating Base and intelligence-led patrols along the Kompany Asusar route as immediate measures to secure the area.
It also called on the National Emergency Management Agency and other well-meaning Nigerians to provide urgent humanitarian relief to the affected community.
While demanding a thorough investigation to arrest and prosecute the perpetrators, the Forum prayed for the repose of the departed.
“We pray that Allah (SWT) forgives the departed, grants them Al-Jannah Firdaus as martyrs, heals the injured, comforts the bereaved, and restores lasting peace to Taraba State and Nigeria. Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un,” the statement added.
