Tinubu inaugurates ₦280bn Bodo-Bonny Road

By Daniel Tyokua

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has inaugurated the ₦280 billion Bodo-Bonny Road in Rivers State, ending a 76-year wait for road access to Bonny Island.

The 37.9-kilometre road, conceived in 1950, features about three kilometres of bridges across the Opobo Channel, connecting Bonny to Bodo and the wider road network.

In a statement issued by the Senior Special Assistant on Media to the Minister of Works, Francis Nwaze, the Minister, Senator David Umahi, disclosed that Tinubu had approved an additional 8.9-kilometre dual carriageway extension to link the road with the East-West Road.

Umahi said the extension, translating to 17.8 kilometres of carriageway, would be constructed with reinforced concrete pavement to improve connectivity, ease transportation and boost economic activities along the corridor.

He put the average construction cost at about ₦7.4 billion per kilometre, noting that the extensive bridges across the Opobo Channel accounted for the project’s significant engineering investment.
