A 15 year-old girl has emerged winner of Women in Energy and Economic Sustainabilty Initiative Essay Competition
The essay competition with the theme, ‘How Women and Girls can actively participate in the clean energy sector as change agents”, was organized for Girls in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics
(STEM).
Miss Angel Mbaya, became the overall winner of the 1st edition of the Women in Energy and Economic Sustainability Initiative, National Essay Competition for STEM Girls in Renewable Energy.
This is in commemoration of the International Day of The Girl Child 2023.
The 1st place winner and recipient of a N100,000 and a Solar Lantern, Ms Angel Myra Mbaya 15 year old, is a student of Olumawu School Abuja.
Angel said, “I entered the competition with a desire to see a change for girls in the energy sector which has been dominated by men. Writing this essay wasn’t easy for me, because of the need to balance my midterm school work and house chores.”
Accordingly to the President, Women in Energy and Economic Sustainability Initiative, Engr. Nkechi Okenwa, a record number of entries was received from girls in Senior Secondary Schools around the country and three winners emerge following rigorous evaluation by our expert panel of judges.
While expressing her excitement, Miss Angel, said “I feel ecstatic. I feel that my voice is heard and I have made an impact on other girls”.
Miss Evelyn James of Deeper Life High School, Abuja, emerged 2nd place winner and recipient of N50,000 and a Solar Lantern.
While, Miss Chizitara Ogbonnaya of Danbo International School, Abuja, came in 3rd place and is the recipient of N30,000 and a Solar Lantern.
