Otabor’s Rights Violation: NAPTIP goofed, misinterpreted Reps Committee ruling

By Hassan Zaggi

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), has goofed in its interpretation of the outcome of the last proceeding by the House of Representatives Committee on Public Petitions investigating petition filed by Alliance Hospital against NAPTIP.

The petition was filed against NAPTIP for violating the fundamental human rights of staff of Alliance Hospital.

A statement by the Media Consultant of Alliance Hospital, Dada Joseph, noted that the Director General of NAPTIP, Dr Fatima Waziri, who was scolded by the House of Representatives Committee for primitive misuse of her office and infringement of fundamental rights of innocent citizens, was summoned to appear before the Committee on Thursday, April 18, 2024.

According to him, the last proceeding was meant for the NAPTIP Director General, to appear before the Committee based on the summon issued against her.

The summon was issued on her by the chairman of the House Committee on Public Petition, Hon. Emeka Etaba, to appear on April 18, 2024, but knowing fully well that the Committee will not spare her for violating the rights of the MD of Alliance Hospital, the Dr. Fatima quickly rushed to file a suit against him before the FCT High Court on March 18, 2024.

At the resumed hearing on Thursday, April 18, again the NAPTIP DG was absent and sent her staff to inform the Committee that the agency has instituted the matter before an FCT High Court.

The Chairman of the Committee, therefore, ruled that since the matter is before the Court, it will be sub-judice for the committee to continue proceeding on the petition.
