Breaking: Sokoto Students Laud Governor Aliyu’s ‘Transformative’ Reforms

Sokoto State students have commended Governor Ahmad Aliyu for his administration’s “transformative” education reforms and infrastructure development, which have positively impacted their academic pursuits.

At a press conference organized by the Sokoto State Students Association (SOSSA), the students praised Governor Aliyu for clearing the backlog of tuition fees inherited from the previous administration and paying tuition fees for over 7,744 students in the 2023 academic session. They also lauded the governor for extending the same gesture to over 5,996 students in the 2024 academic session.

The students appreciated the governor’s commitment to education, citing the deployment of state-owned intra-city transportation in Usmanu Danfodio University Sokoto (UDUS) school park, which has reduced the cost of studying for students living off-campus. They also acknowledged the governor’s pledge to build a modern large-capacity hostel facility and a heavy-duty borehole facility to ensure an adequate supply of water within the campus and surrounding communities.

The Special Advisor to the Governor on Student Matters, Hon. Abubakar Salame, was also commended for launching a 7-Point agenda scheme aimed at ensuring maximum participation and efficiency in schools. The initiatives include Student Public Health, Student Empowerment, Student Climate Action, Student Peace Dialogue, Student Drugs and Morality, Students A.I Robotics Technology, and Student with Disability initiatives.

SOSSA Chairman, Comrade Musa Atiku, expressed the students’ gratitude to Governor Aliyu for his “unprecedented” support for the education sector, describing it as a “beacon of hope” for the future of Sokoto State. He also thanked the governor for his commitment to youth empowerment and development.

The students called on stakeholders to support the governor’s initiatives and pledged to be responsible and productive citizens during and after their training.

The event was attended by representatives of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and other media agencies.
