End bad governance: Silent protest in Anambra

From Isaac Ojo, Ifeoma Ejiofor Nnewi

The planned end bad governance scheduled to begin on Thursday, 1st was greeted with sit at home.

Our correspondent who visited Onitsha noted that most of shops were closed for the major part of the day.

Vehicular movement was also light as inter city and inter motor parks were securely locked.

The same thing was applicable to the industrial town as many commuters and workers who had wanted to rush to their place of work got stranded as motor parks and markets in Nnewi were also securely locked.

Mr Tony Chike, a commercial driver who spoke with our reporter claimed that people were afraid to come out because of incident that allegedly happened in Owerri a day earlier.

He also identified hunger and fear of the protest being hijacked by hoodlums as part of the reason people decided to stay indoors.

Meanwhile, the President General (PG) of Nzuko-Ora, Mr Maduka Atuenyi had in a statement warned that nobody should come to Nnewi to protest.

In Awka the Anambra State capital, many of the government offices opened for work but many workers were not on their duty posts.

Vehicular movement was heavier in the state capital as compared with Onitsha and Nnewi while there was also huge presence of security operatives in Awka.
