By Daniel Tyokua

The newly appointed acting chairman Federal Capital Territory Internal Revenue Service ( FCT-IRS), Michael Ango, on Tuesday took over from Haruna Abdullahi, the immediate past acting chairman, in a brief ceremony at the Service Secretariat.

Addressing the management staff, Ango assured them with other stakeholders, that he would run an open administration hence he would depend on the support of everyone in the Service including the immediate past boss.

He said his mandate was to implement Mr. President’s vision for making Nigeria, a truly
prosperous nation, that is able to provide its citizens with the opportunities and
environment to meet their individual and collective aspirations. With particular focus on
the FCT.

Ango said he would work to support the agenda of the Minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike to create a modern and truly 21st century capital city that provides infrastructure,
social services and a secure citizen friendly environment comparable to any developed
nation in the world.

According to him, the Minister had already shown that he is committed to doing so, as can be attested to, with all the infrastructural
development ongoing and completed in the last one year in Abuja.

The Chairman noted that FCT-IRS is the major source of revenue for the territory such that FCT would be able to fund its major projects from the revenue collection by the Service with minimal dependence on federal
allocation.

Ango stated that there would be no room for laxity, incompetence or other negative tendencies that would not align with the vision and goals of Mr. President and the Honourable Minister of FCT.

In his remarks, the outgoing Chairman Mr. Haruna Abdullahi, said it has been a pleasure serving as the Acting Chairman of FCT-IRS. Reflecting on his time in the role, he expressed gratitude for the opportunity to lead and contribute to the Service success.

He said the Service was excited to welcome a new administration filled with new bustling ideas and strategies that would further improve revenue generation. He assured the new Acting Executive Chairman of his continued support adding that the Service will ensure a seamless handover process.

In a statement issued by head, Corporate Communications, FCT-IRS, Mustapha Sumaila, said Abdullahi described Mr Ango as a friend of the Service since its inception.
