Arewa coalition applauds Defence Minister Matawalle’s efforts in restoring peace to Sokoto

The Coalition of Northern Forum has praised the remarkable strides in restoring peace and stability to Sokoto State following the intervention of the Honourable Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle.

This commendation followed the minister’s visit to the state, where he led a high-level delegation of security agencies to address security challenges in the region.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the group’s chairman, Abdul Hamid Shadakori, expressed profound gratitude for Matawalle’s efforts, acknowledging the significant improvement in the region’s security climate.

“For the first time in a long while, we can sleep with both eyes closed, free from the anxiety that once gripped our communities,” Shadakori said.

He further applauded the minister’s unrelenting commitment to tackling banditry, Boko Haram, and other security threats affecting not just Sokoto but the entire northern region.

He said the people of Sokoto State are already reaping the benefits of Matawalle’s hard work and the visionary leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Shadakori emphasized that President Tinubu’s appointment of Matawalle was a strategic decision, noting that the Defence Minister’s achievements in addressing insecurity within just a year have outpaced those of previous administrations.

He emphasized that Matawalle has employed a more resolute and effective approach in combating long-standing security issues in northern communities.

While acknowledging potential criticism, Shadakori insisted that the progress under Matawalle’s leadership is undeniable and urged President Tinubu to maintain his support for the minister.

He described the Defence Minister as a “national asset,” cautioning against political interference or attempts to exploit the security situation for electoral gains ahead of the 2027 elections.

While the reaffirming the forum’s strong backing of both President Tinubu and Minister Matawalle, Shadakori
expressed optimism that their leadership will continue to bring lasting peace and development to Nigeria.
