The Nigerian Senate has strongly denied allegations that a serving senator is featured in a viral video showing a romantic scene inside an office, claiming the setting is within the National Assembly complex in Abuja. According to Senator Yemi Adaramodu, the Senate’s spokesperson, the man in the video is not a current member of the Senate.
The video, which resurfaced and began trending on social media on Tuesday, sparked outrage and widespread speculation. Many online users claimed that the footage showed a Nigerian Senator engaged in inappropriate conduct within a Senate office. However, Adaramodu described the claims as baseless, stating that the video has been online for four to five years and does not depict any senator currently serving ².
The Senate’s Spokesman, emphasized that the office design in the clip does not resemble any part of the Senate, saying: “There is no office architectural configuration like that in the Senate. None. I can open up to 10 offices for you to compare. That place is not in the Senate.” Sahara Reporters corroborated Adaramodu’s claim, confirming that the video is not recent and has been recycled multiple times online ¹.
Despite the Senate’s explanation, public skepticism remains, with social media users expressing doubt and calling for greater accountability from elected officials. Some users have raised concerns about the Senate’s stance on issues related to accountability and transparency. As of press time, neither the identity of the man nor the woman in the video has been officially established.
The Senate has urged the public to avoid drawing conclusions based on viral misinformation, maintaining that it has no connection to the controversial footage. The Senate emphasizes the importance of relying on verified information rather than speculation.
