TRCN, TGMIND AI formalize agreement to deliver AI teaching platform to all licensed teachers in Nigeria

By Felix Khanoba

The Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with GMIND AI to create an artificial intelligence-powered platform designed to transform classroom teaching nationwide.

The platform, which will deliver contextualised and simulated lesson plans, is scheduled for launch on October 6. Ahead of that, TRCN will unveil its revamped website on August 25, featuring multilingual video guides, followed by nationwide training for teachers in all six geopolitical zones.

Speaking at the signing ceremony in Abuja on Wednesday, TRCN Registrar, Dr. Mrs. Ronke Soyombo, said the initiative would redefine lesson preparation and raise the quality of teaching.

“We want AI-generated lesson plans that are contextualised for our children. Every lesson will also be simulated, because 21st-century learners need to see and experience concepts for learning to be profound,” she said.

Soyombo explained that, unlike generic systems, the TRCN-GMIND platform would embed Nigerian history, culture and realities into every lesson. “Our children can still learn about the Victorians, but they must also learn about the Ife and Benin Kingdoms in the same breath,” she noted.

The resource bank will include two streams: AI-driven lesson plans with simulations for digitally skilled teachers, and prescriptive, ready-to-use plans for those with limited ICT experience. “This is teachers supporting teachers,” Soyombo said, adding that outstanding educators will contribute to the prescriptive plans to ensure inclusivity.

According to her, the system will differentiate content for gifted, average and less able learners, with a strong focus on practical, hands-on classroom activities. The resources will be available online, at TRCN state offices, and in downloadable formats.

Dr. Deji Ajani, Director of Strategic Partnership and Innovation at GMIND AI, described the project as a flagship initiative for AI in African education.

“We are excited to co-create TRCN AI, a customised ecosystem that blends cutting-edge technology with Nigeria’s unique educational needs,” he said.
