A youth and political leader in the Niger Delta, Comrade Darlington Nwauju, has sent heartfelt congratulations and commendations to the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who just clocked two years in office as Minister.
Nwauju, spokesperson of the Rivers State All Progressives Congress (APC), described the achievements as simply superlative performance.
Nwauju who said he sent the congratulations on behalf of thousands of other young visionary Nigerians to the Minister’s two years said the open accolade is not one bloated by an ingenious appeal to curry public endorsement for Dr Tunji-Ojo’s achievements in 730 days.
Rather, he said it is one of the countless attestations to the Minister’s industry, patriotism and innovative leadership of a Ministry once famous for only announcing public holidays in Nigeria.
He said the Minister has shattered several glass ceilings in two years, overshooting revenue targets for his Ministry, frugal implementation of budgets, and humane management of men.
Nwauju said that the nation has witnessed the promotion of over 100,000 officers and men of the paramilitary agencies under the Interior Ministry; prioritized welfare of inmates in the 246 correctional centres; promoted justice delivery and rights of inmates.
He also completed ultra-modern furniture factories, leather & shoes factories as part of rehabilitation and skills acquisition for inmates; facilitated release of over 4000 inmates that were serving avoidable jail terms by mobilizing #585million through corporate bodies to pay fines for these inmates as part of corporate social responsibility, he said.
Other achievements include that he cleared a backlog of over 200,000 passports; Established the enhanced E-passport facilities in Europe; Launched contactless biometric passports; Set up a command & control centre for immigration services; introduced the centralization of Nigerian passports; Remodelled the Fire Service Academy; Established a Civil Defence Mining Marshall (which has helped boost revenue earnings for the nation in the mining sector from #6billion to #48billion) ; Established a Paramilitary Academy.
“Recently, the same Minister sought and got Presidential approval to employ 30,000 Nigerians through the various paramilitary agencies under his Ministry.
“Indeed, he added, the Minister has served as the number one ambassador of the renewed hope agenda of Mr President. He said Dr Tunji-Ojo has set solid performance benchmarks, and has made the younger generation of Nigerians proud!”, Nwauju added.
