The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) has pledged that the process to appoint its next Vice Chancellor will be transparent, fair, and open to all qualified candidates.
The Governing Council gave the assurance on Thursday in response to social media reports surrounding the ongoing selection exercise.
In a statement, on Thursday, signed by NOUN’s Director of Media and Publicity, Ibrahim Sheme, the university emphasized that the selection is still in progress and remains open until the advertised deadline.
The statement reads : “The attention of the Governing Council of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) has been drawn to a news item making the rounds on social media on the ongoing search for the next Vice-Chancellor of the University.
“The news item focused on a potential candidate for the post of VC whose name was not listed in a congregation list, alleging that the said candidate could not be a candidate for the post.
“The University hereby categorically states that the names of members on the so-called congregation’s list are not final and in no way represent the list of members qualified to be Vice-Chancellor. Indeed, the said name has been included in the congregation list.
“The deadline for application for the post of NOUN Vice-Chancellor as advertised in three (3) national dailies has not been reached. The search for the next VC is therefore not foreclosed; it is a work in progress which continues until the advertised deadline is reached.
“The Council hereby assures the University community that the selection process will be fair and just to all.
“The general public is advised to ignore any such publications that clearly aim to misinform and stoke the embers of controversy on the selection process for the next Vice-Chancellor of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN).”
