Mathew Osita Okeke, a renowned legal expert, has authored two impactful books: “Fundamental Human Rights Enforcement in Nigeria, Law Practice and Procedure” and “Nigeria: Journey from Fiscal to Feeding Bottle Federalism: The Way Forward.”
These books aim to enhance understanding and implementation of human rights and federalism in Nigeria, addressing pressing issues and proposing solutions.
He presented the two books to the public recently at the Nigerian Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Maitama, Abuja.
Mathew Osita Okeke’s books address Nigeria’s pressing human rights issues and federal system flaws.
He laments rising human rights abuses, emphasizing democracy should guarantee rights. Okeke calls on Nigerians to promote and protect human rights, urging the judiciary and legal professionals to enforce these rights. The second book examines Nigeria’s federal system, critiquing its current state and offering recommendations for improvement.
He hopes his books spark a national conversation on prioritizing human rights, saying Nigerians have become too accepting of abnormality.
While the first book provides a comprehensive guide to enforcing fundamental human rights in Nigeria, covering laws, practices, and procedures, the second book examines Nigeria’s federal system, critiquing its current state and offering recommendations for improvement.
High Chief Otis Anyaeji, former NSE President, praised Okeke’s books as timely and relevant, emphasizing human rights awareness amidst Nigeria’s security challenges. He noted the books will benefit citizens, students, teachers, and leaders, providing insight into constitutional provisions and government obligations. Anyaeji urged Nigerians to read the books and hold leaders accountable, promoting awareness and activism for national progress.
Nwenyi JohnPaul Ikenna, CEO of De-JohnPaul Great Investments, hails Okeke’s books as “game-changers” that can reshape Nigeria’s narrative and leadership. He commends Okeke for addressing pressing national issues, saying Nigeria needs more leaders with such vision and expertise. Ikenyi believes the books offer valuable insights that can inspire positive change in governance, law enforcement, and national development, urging Nigerians to read and engage with the ideas.

Retired Justice Abdu Aboki, Chairman of the occasion, highlights challenges in pursuing justice and human rights in Nigeria, citing unjust imprisonment and extrajudicial killings. He commends Okeke’s books for examining legal frameworks and offering solutions, praising the work on federalism as a valuable contribution to constitutional amendments. Aboki congratulates Okeke on producing the books and thanks reviewers for their input.
