The Special Adviser to the President of the Senate on Diaspora and Non-Governmental Organizations, Malam Jibril Lawal Tafida, has dismissed as false and malicious a viral video alleging that the Senate President threatened Northerners to vote for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027 or leave Nigeria.
In a statement issued on Friday, Tafida said the Senate President never made such a remark, describing the claim as “completely false and reckless” and accusing commentator Garus Gololo of fabricating the story to mislead the public and create political tension.
He called on security agencies to invite and investigate political commentator Garus Gololo, who made the allegation, and challenged him to provide evidence of where and when the statement was made.
“The public deserves to know the source of these baseless allegations,” Tafida said.
The aide also condemned Gololo’s use of what he called insulting and disrespectful language against the nation’s number three citizen, stating that such conduct does not reflect the values and discipline associated with the North.
Tafida accused Gololo of repeatedly attacking President Tinubu and the ruling APC under the guise of opposition politics to please certain political interests.
He urged Nigerians to reject politics of insults, falsehood, and character assassination, noting that political disagreements should not degenerate into abuse of public institutions.
Tafida added that the Senate President remains committed to national unity, democratic engagement, and responsible political leadership.
