The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to youth-led climate action through strategic collaboration with the Climate Beyond Borders Caravan, a pan-African initiative advancing environmental advocacy across the continent.
The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Youth Development, Dr. Maryam Ismaila Keshinro, disclosed this while receiving a delegation from the Caravan on behalf of the Honourable Minister, Comrade Ayodele Olawande.
According to a statement by the Director, Information & Public Relations, Omolara Esan, at the weekend, she described climate change as an urgent and present challenge with far-reaching implications for livelihoods, food security, public health, migration, peace, and economic stability across Africa.
Dr. Keshinro emphasised that although young people are among the most affected by climate change, they remain the continent’s strongest drivers of innovation and sustainable solutions.
She noted that the partnership aligns with the Ministry’s commitment to equipping young Nigerians with the skills, knowledge, and platforms required to lead climate action at community, national, and global levels.
Describing the initiative as a transformative movement rather than just a cross-country journey, she highlighted its role in promoting African unity, environmental stewardship, and youth-driven development.
“Through advocacy, community engagement, policy dialogue, and cross-border partnerships, the initiative will nurture a new generation of environmentally conscious African leaders,” she said.
The Ministry reaffirmed its support for programmes promoting green innovation, environmental education, renewable energy awareness, climate entrepreneurship, and sustainable development.
Leader of the delegation,
In her remarks, Ms. Olufunke Kumuyi who is the leader of the team, said the Caravan is mobilising young Africans towards climate advocacy, environmental responsibility, and sustainable development.
