The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has constituted a 17-member screening committee to oversee the screening of presidential, governorship, senatorial and House of Representatives aspirants ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to a statement signed by the party’s National Secretary, Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu, the committee will be inaugurated at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 19, and is chaired by former two-term governor of Ebonyi State, Sam Egwu.
The statement said Egwu, who also served as a senator, will head the committee, while the party’s National Legal Adviser, Reuben Egwuaba, will serve as secretary.
Other members of the committee include Babatunde Ali as deputy chairman, alongside Buba Galadima, Mohammed Sani Takori, Daniel Onifade, Ikeddy Isiguzo and Wole Adedayo.
Others are Osusu Osusu, Asukewe Ikoawaji, Udenta Udenta, Frederick E. Owotorufa, Hannatu Tanko, Dogo Shammar, Henry Obaze, Clement Agiagie and Fatima Musa Abba.
The party said the committee comprises party leaders, professionals and members of the National Working Committee, aimed at ensuring a credible screening process for aspirants seeking tickets for major elective positions.
The screening committee will oversee the assessment of aspirants contesting for the presidency, governorships, Senate and House of Representatives positions under the NDC platform.
The development marks another step in the party’s preparations ahead of the 2027 elections, as political parties intensify internal processes for candidate selection.
The committee is expected to screen aspirants for the 2027 general election, including its Presidential hopeful Peter Obi and others.
