Enugu ex-lawmakers hail Mbah’s achievements at third anniversary

From Maurice Okafor, Enugu

The Association of Emeritus Lawmakers of the Enugu State House of Assembly (AELESHA), comprising former Speakers and principal officers of the legislature, has congratulated Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah on his third anniversary in office.

The former lawmakers conveyed their goodwill message to the governor during their plenary session held on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at the Enugu Sports Club.

In a statement signed by its Chairman, Rt. Hon. Chiedozie Alex Ogbonnia, PhD, and made available to journalists in Enugu, the association expressed satisfaction with what it described as the remarkable transformation recorded under Governor Mbah’s administration over the past three years.

According to the group, notable achievements include improvements in the transportation sector through the establishment of Enugu Air, development of bus terminals, expansion of urban road networks and gateway roads, as well as the implementation of the 260 ward-based Smart School and Type II Hospital projects.

The association also highlighted the New Enugu Smart City project, the International Conference Centre, the revitalisation of the long-abandoned Presidential Hotel, Enugu, and the allocation of more than 33 per cent of the state budget to education.

Other achievements cited by the former lawmakers include the commissioning of the Haier Factory, a $20 million assembly plant for the production of laptops, smartphones and spare parts for repairs.

AELESHA further noted that the administration’s 042 Ride Taxi Youth Empowerment Scheme would not only provide sustainable employment opportunities for young people in the state but also improve public transportation services across Enugu.

The association also commended Governor Mbah for sustaining the successes of Rangers Football Club, describing the club as a symbol of Igbo resilience and identity.

“The name “Rangers” represents the Igbo consciousness of “never-say-die”, a trait they demonstrated with grit, passion and commitment during the Nigerian Biafran war. In fact, Rangers was the most dogged, formidable, invincible and daring paramilitary unit of the Biafran Armed Forces whose exploits during the war were unassailable. In other words, Rangers represents the Igbo history, resilience, ingenuity, courage, audacity and identity.

“We are happy that Mbah keeps the flag flying”, the statement reads.

The statement was signed by Rt. Hon. Chiedozie Alex Ogbonnia, PhD (Ozowaluona), Chairman of the Association of Emeritus Lawmakers of the Enugu State House of Assembly (AELESHA).
