Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, last weekend commissioned a number of special projects embarked upon by the Chairman of Ekwusigo Local Government Area, Hon. Chikezie James Obi.
Hon. Obi, while conducting the governor and his entourage round the projects, said they were initiated and completed in line with Governor Soludo’s six-point agenda.
In the area of education, Obi said the Ekwusigo LGA administration under his leadership had introduced tailoring and shoemaking into the curriculum of government-owned schools in the council area.
During the commissioning of one of the schools where the skill acquisition programme is being implemented, seven students approached Governor Soludo to take his measurements for clothes and shoes.
The governor gladly obliged, but was pleasantly surprised when the students, right at the venue and while the programme was still ongoing, produced a complete native outfit made from Aba fabric and a pair of shoes.
The students also made a gown for the Anambra State First Lady, Dr. Mrs. Nonye Soludo.
Speaking excitedly, Governor Soludo said the students’ demonstration was in line with his administration’s vision of a “New Anambra,” where graduates would leave school not only with certificates but also with practical skills.
After interacting with the students, the governor promised to support them in gaining admission into universities of their choice to study the engineering courses they desire.
Prof. Soludo also announced that the six government-owned schools where the students are currently receiving their secondary education had become schools of special interest to the state government.
He urged other Local Government Area chairmen to emulate Hon. Chikezie Obi, whom he commended for deepening the implementation of the six pillars of his administration in Ekwusigo LGA.
Governor Soludo also rewarded the seven students who participated in making the clothes and shoes with N500,000 each, amounting to N3.5 million.
In addition, the six government-owned schools implementing the skills acquisition programme received N5 million each, bringing the total support to the schools to N30 million.
