President Bola Tinubu has congratulated the Oba of Benin, His Royal Majesty, Ewuare II, Omo N’Oba N’Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, on his 10th anniversary on the throne and 73rd birthday, commending his efforts to repatriate stolen Benin artefacts and preserve the kingdom’s cultural heritage.

The Oba of Benin, who ascended the throne in October 2016, marks 10 years as the traditional ruler of the ancient kingdom on Tuesday, alongside his 73rd birthday.

Tinubu, in a statement issued by the State House, also praised the traditional ruler for sustaining the dignity of the Benin monarchy and promoting peace, integrity and communal values throughout his decade-long reign.

The President extended the congratulations on behalf of his wife and the Federal Government, describing the monarch as an embodiment of enduring dignity, culture and historical consciousness.

He said the dual celebration represented a significant milestone in the history of the Benin Kingdom and recognised the Oba’s commitment to preserving the traditions and heritage of his people.

“Your Majesty, this is no ordinary milestone. It is a celebration of ten years of royal stewardship, service, and an unwavering commitment to preserving the heritage and traditions that define the Benin people,” Tinubu said.

The President noted that Oba Ewuare II had demonstrated wisdom, courage and restraint in his leadership, while remaining committed to peace and the aspirations of his people.

He described the monarch as a symbol of grace and integrity, a fountain of wisdom, a guardian of communal values and a rallying point for the people.

Tinubu also commended the Oba’s efforts to secure the return of stolen Benin artefacts, as well as his role in safeguarding one of Africa’s oldest and most enduring monarchies.

“As Your Majesty celebrates another year of life, may this birthday usher in renewed strength, greater wisdom, sound health, and an even deeper inspiration for the young to cherish their heritage,” the President said.

He prayed for continued success in the monarch’s cultural and social initiatives, expressing hope that his reign would bring further progress to the Benin Kingdom.
