Alleged woman witch escapes death after police rescue

A 37- year old woman accused of killing a child through witchcraft was beaten to a pulp and almost to the point of death by local vigilante group when police intervened in Abia state.

The woman is said to be still on the run with her husband and two children.

The Authority gathered that she was stripped naked by the vigilante group, and has also been banished from her matrimonial home.

According to our source, the woman, Mrs Joy Kalos Smith of Number 5 Umuola road, in Aba, Abia state was accused of witchcraft.

Underlying this belief is the idea that human soul could exist independent of the material body. At night this soul quits the body and assumes the form of a creature to carry out evil acts against others.

Mrs Smith has been accused of causing the community misfortune and preventing the people of the community from progressing, causing illness to children and even deaths. Unfortunately, many people including the traditional ruler of the community actually believe the charge of witchcraft levelled against Mrs Smith.

Further to this was an attack on her husband, Mr Kalos as he tried to defend his wife and to save her from been assaulted.

Mrs Smith and her two children including her husband Mr Kalos, has been chased out of the community.

She has been reportedly threatened with death if she did not withdraw the matter from the police.

Eye witness said, before the arrival of the police, that the vigilante group were planning to set Mrs Smith ablaze.

We recall that this has been going on for a while as a similar incident happened last year.
