ODOGWU EMEKA ODOGWU writes that the Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Prof. Charles Okechukwu Esimone, his wife Chinyere and his household penultimate Sunday appreciated God for His interventions and glory in his family.
Elated and filled with joy, Prof Esimone’s wife, Dr Mrs Chinyere Esimone, while narrating her miraculous delivery said that she had been barren for 11 years such that people believed she would not deliver a child again until she met a medical doctor and fertility specialist, Prof. Joseph Ikechebelu of Life International Hospital, Awka who reassured her that all hope was not dashed that she still stand a chance to deliver.
She said Prof Ikechebelu carried out many scan on her system before 21 fibroids were removed from her womb.
Dr Mrs Esimone of the department of Music, Unizik, said ,“When I went to his hospital, he carried out scan on me, ran several tests. He later told me that I have a lot of fibroids in my body. I didn’t know I have fibroid. He advised us to go for surgery which I went and 21 fibroids were removed from my womb. I was told that my womb will take 3 months to heal. After the 3 months, I was advised by my doctor to go for RDS which I did.”
The Unizik Vice Chancellor, Prof Esimone during the reception of his thanksgiving service held at the women development centre, Awka on Sunday said the family seized the opportunity to show gratitude to God for his infinite mercies and love towards his family.
He added that his trust on God watered the ground for the fulfillment of God’s promises which is to use the family as a testimony of his goodness and faithfulness.
Prof. Esimone said 2019 is a successful year for his family which included delivery of quadruplets after years of waiting and appointment as the Vice chancellor of Unizik.
He said that his staying power through the periods of barrenness, pressure, and challenges of life has been his sole trust in the Almighty God.
He said that the Lord’s promises were delivered on the platform of patience and trust as can be seen in the biblical stories of Abraham, Job and Jacob.
Esimone, who beat 37 other professors to emerge as the sixth substantive vice-chancellor of the university earlier this year challenged Christians to trust in God at all times and let his purpose and plan happen and not the plan of man. He said that people often interpret delay as denial but God uses that as strategy to plan what will bring glory to His name.
It would be recalled that Prof. Charles Esimone and his wife had their first son in 2015, after 11 years of marriage. Four years after the birth of their first child, they welcomed a set of quadruplets, two boys and two girls.
Congratulations were in order for the family who earlier held an early morning thanksgiving service at the Deeper Life Bible Church, Awka followed by gifts from dignitaries, friends and well-wishers notable of which is the donation of Mario and Juliet Baby Diapers and wipes to a motherless baby home on behalf of the family by Craftmethod limited, one of the leading companies in Nigeria.
The Church worship presided over by the Regional Overseer , Deeper Life Bible Church, Awka Region, Professor Godwin Okeke was not without the heavy presence of dignitaries including the Deputy governor of Anambra state, Dr. Nkem Okeke, the two former Vice chancellors of Unizik, Prof. Boniface Egboka and Prof. Joseph Ahaneku, management , staff and students of Unizik , first class traditional rulers including Igwe Kenneth Orizu of Nnewi and Obi Gibson Nwosu of Awka among others, top government officials, Pharmaceutical Council members and other well wishers.
Unizik inducts 95 physiotherapists
OJO ISAAC writes that history was last week made at the Faculty of Health Sciences Nnewi campus of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka as ninety five (95) graduating physiotherapy students of the institution were inducted into the profession.
In his welcome address, the Head of Department of Medical Rehabilitation, Dr M. J. Nwankwo said the occasion was a great one for the institution as the department has leaped forward from the initial four lecturers and eighteen students to current status they now enjoy.
The HOD while congratulating the graduands urged them to make the best of every opportunity that comes their way.
Dr Nwankwo noted that the future is bright and beautiful for the inductees if they don’t forget the fact that character and integrity are the most important acquisition.
“Now that you have acquired the necessary skills to stand on your feet to defend the rightful causes you believe in and most importantly now that you have received education, a potent weapon for self-realization and social development, do not forget that education for service to humanity and divinity is better than education for self alone.” Dr Nwankwo noted.
Dr Nwankwo who thanked the university management for nurturing the department pointed out that the Medical Rehab department is in urgent need of certain logistics especially a departmental vehicle.
In her speech, the Registrar/CEO, Medical Rehabilitation Therapist (Registration) Board of Nigeria (MRTB) Dr Mrs Akanle Olufunke said MRTB is a board established to regulate, control the training and practice of seven professions in the nation’s health sector.
Dr Mrs Akanle who later performed the induction and oath taking ceremony on the graduating students also congratulated them for the actualization of their dreams noting that the rigorous training and qualifying examinations they successfully undertook has placed them at par with their professional colleagues Nationwide and even globally.
She urged them to be good ambassadors of the profession wherever they may later find themselves later in life even as she tasked them to always think physiotherapy, talk physiotherapy, act physiotherapy and work physiotherapy.
Dr Mrs Akanle notified the management of the institution of the recent approval of Dr of Physiotherapy (DPT) curriculum for the training of physiotherapy in Nigeria noting that the role of physiotherapy and other medical rehabilitation professions in the health care delivery system can not be over emphasized in a densely populated country like Nigeria.
In a goodwill message he sent to the staff of medical rehab department, the Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Prof Charles Okechukwu Esimone said the 11th induction and oath taking ceremony of the department gave validity to the hard work of both the staff and graduands.
The Unizik VC reassured the staff and students that his administration through its project 200, whose object is to leapfrog the institution to rank among the top 200 universities in the world, is committed to providing the infrastructure and services that will facilitate teaching, learning and research across the acedemic disciplines in the university towards the actualization of the project.
A graduand, Chisom Ezeh thanked God for the privilege of passing through a great educational institution like Unizik. She also commended the staff of Medical Rehab department for their investment in the inductees noting that she and her colleagues would endeavour to be good ambassadors of the school.
The highlight of the induction and oath taking ceremony was the recognition and award of certificates to outstanding graduands and deserving staff.
