The Federal Goverrnment has delivered 42 trucks of food items to the Federal capital Territory Administration for immediate distribution to the poor and vulnerable people to cushion effect of coronavirus pandemic within the territory.
Minister of Humanitarian affairs, Sadiya Umar Farouq handed over the items to the FCT Minister, Malam Muhammad Musa Bello on Wednesday in Abuja.
The minister explained that the initiative was to cushion effect of hardship faced by residents.
Giving the breakdown of the food items, the Minister stated that the items include, ten trucks of rice, thirty trucks of grains and two trucks of vegetable oil amongst others.
Farouq who noted that, five trucks of rice and two trucks of oil have already been handed over to the FCT Administration, also said, another five trucks of rice and thirty trucks of grains will arrive the city on Thursday from Lagos state.
According to her, ” we have just handed over five trucks of rice now, five trucks are on their way and two trucks of vegetable oil and grains from strategic grain reserve are also on the way, by tomorrow FCTA will receive it”.
“For the grain, we are looking at about thirty trucks “, she disclosed.
The FCT Minister, Malam Muhammad Musa Bello commended the Federal Government’s gesture to the FCT.
He however urged all residents to stay calm and obey the stay at home order to contain spread of the Virus as government was aware of the plight.
Also the FCT Minister of State, Dr Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for finding the territory worthy to benefit from the FG’s intervention being the second state with the highest number of those affected by the COVID -19.
She revealed that the administration will use the same chain its adopted to distribute the FCT palliative to carryout the distribution.
