How CP Dikko Maintained Peace And Order In Kano During Sallah, Arrested 297 Suspects

The just concluded Eid-el-Fitr celebrations was not only peaceful, but very colourful in Kano state, with the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, performing all the traditional rituals, including the dubar, which eluded the ancient kingdom for more than a year, owing largely to the COVID-19 pandemic that stalled almost everything in 2020. Ordinarily, before, during and after every Eid-el-Fitr celebrations, the rate of crime and criminal activities, expectedly grow higher. Bandits and insurgents also take advantage of such period to perpetrate evil.


But in Kano, this year’s Eid-el-Fitr came and gone without any hint of bad news of crime, attacks or criminal activities. This is no magic! The impressive security recorded in Kano within this period was, indeed, as a result of the commitment, doggedness, steadfastness, and patriotism displayed by the Kano state Commissioner of Police, Mr.Sama’ila Shuaibu Dikko. Apart from raising the morale of his men and officers, CP Dikko also synergized with sister security agencies to ensure that Kano remained crime-free and peaceful during the celebrations. Indeed, speaking through the Command’s Image-maker, DSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, CP Dikko also acknowledged that community policing strategy has remained a vital tool in fighting crime and criminal activities in the state. This is why the Kano state police Command recorded the arrest of 297 suspects who engaged in crimes ranging from armed robbery, kidnapping, human trafficking, cattle rustling, among other crimes, between 10 April and 23 May, 2021.


According to him, “the Kano State Police Command’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives and properties of citizenry is yielding positive results. These achievements was as a result of robust community policing engagements, intelligence-led and visibility policing, sustained synergy with sister security agencies, massive campaign against thuggery (Daba), drug abuse (Kwaya) and fully adherence to the ethics of the force in line with the directives of Ag IGP Usman Alkali Baba, psc (+), NPM, fdc, the Command arrested 297 suspects between 10 April 2021 to 23 May, 2021, before, during and after the Eid-el Fitr Sallah Celebrations.”


CP Dikko said intelligence-led raids conducted within the period under review, led to the arrest of 187 thugs (‘Yan Daba). Dangerous weapons and illicit drugs were recovered from the suspects. These led to peaceful Ramadan fasting and Sallah Celebrations in Kano state.
Giving detailed account on howw police nabbed criminals in the state within the period under review, he stated that: On 18 May, 2021,  based on the complaints received by the Kano State Police Command that unknown fraudster is manipulating Automated Teller Machine (ATM) of various Banks, CP Sama’ila Shu’aibu Dikko raised and instructed a team of Operation Puff-Adder led by CSP Idris Muhd to arrest the culprit. 


The team immediately swung into action and arrested one Bashir Peter Bala of Tudun Wada Gombe State, at UBA Bank waje Branch Murtala Muhammad way Kano State manipulating the machine by using plastic ruler and masking tape to cover the withdrawal cash as a result, he stole the sum of N11,000 from ATM. 


The suspect confessed of different series of this act at various Banks within the Metropolitan, the following items were recovered from him. One screw driver, masking tape, plastic ruler and money the sum of N68,220.00.


The Commissioner of Police, Kano State Police Command, CP Sama’ila Shuaibu Dikko fsi, has ordered that, case be transferred to the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department for discrete investigation. Suspect will be charge to court upon completion of investigation.  On 17 May, 2021,  a team of Operation Puff-Adder led by CSP Mannir Madugu, upon intelligence report, swiftly responded and arrested, a notorious human trafficker,  Isa Rabiu, at Dawanau Kano  preparatory to their movement with the trafficker children and the victims were rescued. The case has  been transferred to the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department for discrete investigation. 


On 17 May, 202,  a team of Operation Puff-Adder while on intelligence-led patrol, armed robbery suspects were arrested at Gold Coast, Sanya Olu axis Sabon Gari Quarters Kano. They  confessed to be armed robbery syndicate.
 One robbed mobile phone was   recovered in their possession. The owner of the said mobile phone was traced. The suspects will be charged to court upon completion of investigation. 


On 17 May, 2021, a team of Operation Puff-Adder while on intelligence-led patrol in Sabon Gari area Kano, arrested two suspects in possession of 13 pieces of substance suspected to be Cocaine. Suspects were transferred to the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department for discreet investigation. 


 On 16 May, 2021, a team of Operation Puff-Adder led by CSP Mannir Madugu intercepted and arrested one Valentine of Sanya Olu Quarters Sabon Gari Kano in possession of 139 pieces of substance suspected to be Cocaine. The suspect will be charged to court upon completion of investig

 On  16 May, 2021 a team of Operation Puff-Adder led by SP Nasiru Gusau, DPO Gwale Division arrested  the ring leader of a syndicate by name Hussaini Bala alias Mallam, of Bubbugaje Quarters,  Kano along with two other suspects— Ahmed Abubakar a.k.a EL-RUFA’I  of Gaida Quarters Kano and Babangida Idris alias Bangis, of Challawa Quarters, Kano.


The suspects confessed to have stolen over 50 livestocks and uncountable number of GSM handsets at various locations. The suspects will be charged to court upon completion of investigation. 


On 16 May, 2021, Kano State Internal Revenue Service (KIRS) reported a case of fake plate number manufacturer.


A team of Operation Puff Adder swiftly arrested one Muhammad Sa’id  of Gwammaja Quarters, Dala Local Government Area, Kano and one other person. The suspects confessed of being the manufacturers of fake plate numbers for illegal purposes. 


The following items were recovered from them:  four fake motor vehicle plate numbers, three motorcycle plate numbers, and iron instruments for manufacturing the plate numbers. The suspect will be charged to court upon completion of investigation. 


 On 15 May, 2021, a report was received by one Jafar Ibrahim, of Bichi Local Government Area Kano State, while he was riding his motorcycle one Red Boxer valued at N 150,000.00 for commercial purpose. One Ibunu Abdulrahman, of Dansiri Village Bichi Local Government Area Kano called him to  convey him from ‘YanGwarzo Village Bichi Local Government Area, Kano, and they bargained at the rate of N500. 


On their way coming back, the suspect who was sitting behind him use cable wire and attempted to strangle him on his neck as a result of which they fell down and he robbed him of his motorcycle which he raised alarm and good Samaritans around came to his rescue and arrested the suspect. The suspect will be charged to court upon completion of investigation. 


 On the 15 May, 2021,  a report was received by one Sabiu Muhammad, and Adamu Saminu Mu’azu, all of Sha’iskawa Village Bichi Local Government Area, Kano State. 


On the same date, one Mukhtar Haladu, of the same address, armed himself with a sharp knife stormed into their houses attacked them after putting them into fear of instant death, robbed them of their GSM handsets One Tecno L8plu valued N24,000.00,  One Itel P33 valued N14,000.00 and the sum of N13,000.00 cash and also used the knife and stabbed Sabiu Muhammad on his head, back bone and some parts of his body, the victim was rushed to Bichi General Hospital for medical attention while the suspect was arrested. 


The suspect will soon be charged to court upon completion of investigation. 


 On 8 May,  based on credible information, a team of Operation Puff-Adder arrested a notorious armed robbery suspect one Francis Ogbon, an indigene of Benue State at 360 Chemist, opposite total filling station, Kings Garden, Sabon Gari Kano with a locally made pistol. 


On investigation, two of his accomplices were arrested with two  live ammunition of AK-47 Rifle. The suspects will be charged to court upon completion of investigation.


On 8 May, 2021, a team of Operation Puff Adder while on intelligence-led patrol, arrested one Johnson,  with 14 cartons of   fake drugs laden in a Toyota Highlander Jeep at Abedie Street, Sabon Gari Quarters Kano State. The case is under investigation.  


On 8 May, 2021, a team of Operation Puff Adder while on Highway Patrol at nipping point at Kano – Daura road intercepted a mini cap truck conveying six men with stolen electrical properties. Suspects confessed to have stolen the properties from Kazaure Local Government Area, Jigawa State. The case is under investigation.


On 8 May, 2021, based on intelligence gathered of suspicious movement at Kofar Ruwa market, a patrol team of Operation Puff Adder immediately rushed to the scene, one Mustapha Shuaibu, of Jaba quarters was arrested. 21 cartoons each contained 100 packet of rubber solutions, four 20ltrs of suck-and-die intoxicant were recovered in his possession. The case is under investigation.  
 On 8 May, 2021, information was received from a good Samaritan that, some young men  were seen in a tricycle  with  some goats suspected to be  stolen. 


On receipt of the report, a team of Operation Puff Adder immediately rushed to the scene, upon sighting the police, the suspects took to their heels. 


Four of the following suspects were arrested— Aminu Musa,  Sani Abdullahi, Huzaifa Jafar, and Rabiu  Lukman, all of Sani Mainagge quarters, Kano State. 


A tricycle and two  goats, (one  of the goat was already slaughtered by the suspects) were all recovered in their possession.  Effort is ongoing to arrest other fleeing suspects as investigation is in progress. The suspects will be charged to court upon completion of investigation.


On the 7 May, 2021, a team of Operation Puff Adder while on intelligence-led patrol arrested one Idris Hassan,  alias Kado and one other suspect all of Dorayi and Rijiyar Lemo quarters at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital for criminal conspiracy and theft of motorcycles. 


During the cause of investigation, two  motorcycles Lifan jojo and Lifan Hyjour were recovered from them. Investigation revealed that, the suspects are part of the syndicate that specialized in the theft of motorcycles at Hospitals within Kano metropolitan. The suspects will be charged to court upon completion of investigation.


     On 6 May, 2021, pursuant to credible intelligent  on the activities of counterfeit syndicate  detectives of Operation Puff-Adder swiftly responded to information of two suspects trailed to Ni’ima Hotel and  arrested  the following suspects one Aliyu A Aliyu and  Abdullah Muhd and recovered three bundles of $100 USD counterfeit notes and a bag. The case has been transferred to the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department for discreet investigation. The suspects will be charged to court upon completion of investigation.


 On  6 May, 2021, based on security report, a team of Operation Puff Adder led by SP Mu’azu Abubakar  while on intelligence-led patrol at Tsaraka Village Bichi Local Government Area of Kano, arrested one Hassan Haruna,  of Santar Komau village Bichi Local Government Area of Kano, in possession of a motorcycle boxer valued N100,000:00.


 On investigation, the suspect confessed that he stole the motorcycle in Gwagwalada FCT Abuja and another Motorcycle valued N140,000:00 was recovered which  he stole in Dayi Village Katsina State. Investigation is in progress. The suspect will be charged to court upon completion of investigation.


On  6 May, 2021, a team of Operatives Puff Adder led by SP Shehu Dahiru in a sustained follow up  arrested the following Abdullahi Inusa aka ‘Goma Mai Dan Hannu of Gabari village, Kiru Local Government Area, Kano and Abdulkarim Abubakar aka ‘Dogo  of Ikara Local Government Area, Kaduna State. 


During  investigation, the first suspect freely confessed of being involved in kidnapping of one Shuaibu Idris of Allah Gaba Village, Ikara Local Government Area, Kaduna, sometimes in February 2021, while the second suspect confessed his involvement in about three  kidnappings around Kunkumi and Baawa areas of Kaduna and Kano State. 


Meanwhile, both Suspects confessed of rustling more than 20 cows in the above areas. Suspects are being investigated. The suspects will be charged to court upon completion of investigation
On 5 May, 2021, information was received that one Alhaji Bala Musa,  of Yamadawa Quarters Kano, was attacked at the frontage of his house, by one Abdullahi Isma’il,  of Sani Mainagge Quarters Kano State, and Abubakar Hussaini,  of Kankia Local Government Area, Katsina State.  


On receipt of the report, a team of Operation Puff Adder led by CSP Abdulhadi Musa immediately swung into action rushed to the scene. Suspects were arrested, a Pistol with empty shell of 9mm ammunition were recovered in their possession. 
The suspects sustained injuries on their legs and were taken to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital Kano for treatment. The case is under investigation.
On 4 May, 2021, a report was received from one Ayuba Adamu,  of Unguwar Algaita, Kiru Local Goveenment Area, Kano that he received a threatening calls and messages from unknown GSM number, demanding ransom of N2,OOO,OOO from him or else he will be kidnapped.


On receipt of the report, CP Sama’ila Shu’aibu Dikko, raised and instructed the team of Operation Puff Adder led by SP Shehu Dahiru to investigate the matter, the team immediately swung into action through intelligence-led operation on the 5 May, 2021, arrested one Isyaku Lawal, alias Abba of Kuki village Bebeji Local Government Area. 


During investigation, the suspect confessed to the crime he committed and exhibits recovered in his possession include: SIM Cards and GSM handset used in the commission of the crime. Investigation is in progress, the suspect will be charged to court upon the completion of investigation.


 On 26 April, 2021, information was received that two unknown armed men on a tricycle attacked one Walid Mallam, of Na’ibawa quarters Kano State, a security guard  attached  to Man Filling Station along  Ring Road, with a long knife and robbed him of unspecified amount  of money. 


A team of Operation Puff Adder immediately intercepted and arrested one of the suspects by name Sa’idu Isma’il, of Mariri Quarters. The case is under investigation.


 On 26 April, 2021, a  team of Operation Puff Adder while on a intelligence-led patrol at Pulatan Village, Rogo Local Governmemt Area, Kano State, intercepted and  arrested one Surajo Lawal,  of Hago village and one Aminu Sani,  of Makarfi Local Government Area,  Kaduna State, with a motor  vehicle model  Hijet Datsun, value yet unknown.


 The suspects confessed to have stolen it from Hago village Rogo Local Government Area. The suspects will be charge to court upon completion of investigation.


 On 23 April, 2021, a team of Operation Puff Adder, while on intelligence-led patrol, arrested one Usaini  Musa  and Umar  Musa,  all  of Gomari Costain Maiduguri, Borno State with four dangerous  weapons  at  Unguwa Uku  Motor  Park, Kano State.


 During investigation, the suspects confessed to have ran from Abuja after they have killed one Alhaji Babangida Hudu at A.Y.A Asokoro, FCT Abuja on 22 April, 2021. The case is under investigation.


 On 23 April, 2021, a team  of Operation Puff Adder led by SP Dahiru Shehu, arrested one Haruna Liman of Hayin Gada, Karaye Local Government Area, Kano State, for  Criminal  Conspiracy  and  attempted Kidnapping. 
During investigation, suspect confessed to have conspired with  one Idi SNU,  now at large  and  invited  one Sha’aibu  Dankabo  of  Kabo lga, Kano State to  mobilize  his  syndicate  members  from  Katsina  State to  come  and  kidnap one  Ibrahim  Maikudi  of  same  address, in order  to demand  for  ransom. Effort is being intensified to arrest his accomplices. 


On 19 April, 2021, a report was received from  a  good Samaritan that, one A’isha Jibrin  aged 15 years old of Darerawa Quarters Fagge Local Government Area Kano, was solitarily confined  for 10 years in a room by her biological parents named Mohammed Jibrin  and  Rabi Mohammed, all  of the same  address, without proper feeding and  health care. 


On receipt of the report, a team of Policemen along with medical personnel immediately moved to the scene. Victim was rescued and taken to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital for treatment, while the mother aged 35 years old was arrested.  Effort is on to arrest the father now at large.  The case under investigation.
 On 16 April , 2021, a team of Operation Puff Adder while on intelligence-led patrol at Unguwa Uku, arrested one Yahaya Sale of No.250 Baga Road, Maiduguri with a stolen motor vehicle Toyota Corolla Model 2006 Green in colour. During investigation, the suspect confessed to have received the stolen motor vehicle from one Nura  at Zuba Suleja, Niger State. Investigation is in progress.
 On 10 April, 2021, information was received that unknown armed hoodlums with AK47 rifles attacked Kano State Agric Show at Tiga Junction, Dakatsalle, Bebeji Local Government Area, Kano and abducted some women after robbing them of money and valuables.
 On receipt of the report,  CP Sama’ila Shu’aibu Dikko,raised and instructed a team of Operation Puff Adder led by SP Shehu Dahiru to rescue the victims and arrest the hoodlums. 
The team immediately swung into action, engaged the hoodlums and successfully rescued the victims, while the hoodlums fled.
The victims are Salma Yahaya, Zainab Usman, Aisha Ibrahim, and Hafsat Idris, all of the same address. However,  security has been beefed up in the area to avoid happening of any untoward incident.
A team of Operation Puff Adder while on intelligence-led patrol arrested one notorious kidnapper and gun dealer, Ahmad Yakubu alias Baushe of Dangayaki village Karaye Local Government Area, Kano.
 During investigation, his gang leader and amourer, one Tukur Habu alias TK  of Falgore village in Kabo Local Government Area, was also arrested and the suspects confessed of operating with two  AK47 rifles and one  eight-roung revolver gun in a series of kidnapping and armed robbery within Karaye, Gwarzo, Kiru and Rogo Local Government Areas of Kano State. 
Furthermore, the said suspect ‘’Baushe’’ also confessed of supplying guns from Benue and Plateau States to kidnappers in Kano State. 
CP Sama’ila Shu’aibu Dikko, ordered for discreet investigation. The suspects will be charged to court upon completion of investigation.
