From Isaac Ojo, Awka

Allegwd sponsor of the purported Awka nude women protests against the police in Anambra State (names withheld) has been arrested.

The Anambra Police Commissioner, CP Aderemi Adeoye, confirmed the incident to journalists in Awka.

He said the suspect was arrested in Abuja on Monday.

He said the suspect is owner of a private security outfit and had serially been accused of land grabbing and sundry offences, including using his security outfit to intimidate residents.

He was also accused of sponsoring protests involving nude women, purportedly from Awka, demanding the redeployment of the Deputy Commissioner of Police in-charge of State Criminal Investigations Department (SCID), Akin Fakorede, and one Inspector Monday Umana.

The suspect was said to have been trailed to Abuja and arrested there.

Before his arrest, CP Adeoye had said that he was charged at the Federal High and State High Courts in Awka, but had refused to appear to answer to the charhes levelled against him, warranting CP Adeoye to ask for a bench warrant against him.

This came as natives of Enugwu-Agidi in Njikoka Local Government Area of the state cried out to the police to come to their rescue against an alleged use of “militia and thugs” by same accused person to harrass, intimidate and forcefully grab their land.
