Police operatives attached to the Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT),  have arrested an 8-member syndicate in connection to the kidnapped and subsequent killing of Pa Dufwan Dariye, the father of the former governor of Plateau State, Joshua Dariye.

The Force Spokesman, Frank Mba, paraded the suspects in Abuja, Wednesday.

Most members of the gang members are close neighbours of the late Pa Dariye.

He was kidnapped in June 2020 and after eight days, his body was found in the bush  near his village in Horop, Bokkus Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The suspects collected N10 million ransom from the relations of the late Pa Dariye.

Responding to questions from newsmen when he was paraded in Abuja, the ring leader of the gang who is also a close neighbor of the victim, Jethro Ngusen aka Baba Mai-Tuwo, said that he masterminded the kidnap because Joshua Dariye was a governor and a Senator but fail to assist members of the community.

“I didn’t plan to kill Baba Dariye, but the mistake has been made. What I planned, was just to kidnap him and extort money from his son, Joshua.

“We are neighbours from the same village, Horop, in Bokkus Local Government Area of Plateau State. Joshua spent eight years as a governor and another eight years as a Senator, but never assisted any of us his neighbours.

“Much as we tried to ensure he helped; he just didn’t want to help. That was why I decided that I will ensure that I get my own share of his money. I contacted some guys and they, in turn, got some Fulani kidnappers to help kidnap Baba Dariye.

“My boys took him to a forest where we negotiated the ransom. We were, eventually, given N10 million.

Although I didn’t plan or order my boys to kill him, all I can ask for now is forgiveness for his death. As I said earlier, it was just a mistake. I only planned to collect ransom from his son. Please, forgive me,” the suspect said.

CP Frank Mba, however, revealed that the eight members of the gang include Jethron Ngusen, 57 years, from Horop village, who is the mastermind; Sunday Ibrahim, 35 years, from Horop village; Titus Ezikiel, 33 years, from Horop; Ya’u Saidu aka Ya’u Kaban, 40 years, from Kaban village and Dauda Isah, 38 years, from Horop village.

Others are Mangut Shumuwar, 30 years, from Horop village; Henry Amos, 35 years, from Horop village; all in Mushere district of Bokkos LGA of the state.

According to CP MbaL “The breakthrough that led to the arrest of the suspects began with the arrest of one Abubakar Mohammed a.k.a Buba, native of Gada Biyu in Daffo district, Bokkos LGA, Plateau State.

“Buba is one of the principal suspects in the kidnap operation. The confession of the suspect which revealed how they abducted and murdered the nonagenarian, assisted the Police team in apprehending 7 other members of the gang

“Investigations further revealed that it was Jethro Ngusen, the mastermind and convener of the gang, that instructed one of the gang members, Mangut Shumwar to kill Pa Dariye, because he feared that Pa Dariye might recognize the suspects since majority of them are from the same village with the deceased.

“Jethro was also identified as the one who took custody of the ransom and later shared the proceeds of the crime amongst the gang members.”

However, CP Frank Mba warned that most times, insiders or close neighbours within a community often  have a hand in crime and criminalities in their communities.

He called on Nigerians to be weary of their neighbours  to avoid being victims of such criminal incidents.

In another development, the Force Spokesman explained that the Police team arrested one Sadiq Abubakar from Kogi State and one Peter Moses from Kaduna State who abducted a 22yr-old lady to a location in Suleja.

According to him, the suspects held the young lady hostage, had repeated sex with the victim and extorted money from her parents as ransom before her release. Investigations by the Police team showed that the suspects, who are serial virtual kidnappers, usually meet their victims on social media platforms particularly, Facebook, and thereafter lure them to their criminal hideout before subjecting them to sexual molestation and further obtaining ransom from their families.
