Danbatta lauds engineers’ professional impact on NCC

The Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Prof Umar Danbatta, has lauded the efforts and contributions of the Nigerian Society of Engineers and the Nigerian Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (NIEEE) for their professional impact on NCC mandates.

Speaking at the official investiture ceremony of one of its staff, Engr. Kings Adeyemi as the 19th National Chairman of NIEEE, the NCC boss called on NIEEE to participate in some of its programs that is consumer based so the Commission can benefit from the observations and advice they can render.

Represented by the Director of Technical Standards and Network Integrity, NCC, Engr. Bako Wakil, explained that the Commission’s training on the current chairman will be impactful in putting the institution in a proper perspective.

“Professional development is one of the cardinal objectives of the NCC administration, we always train our people both locally and internationally and the current chairman of NIEEE has gone through tremendous training and that will guide him in putting the institution in a proper perspective and encourage members for professional development we must abreast ourselves with the new emerging and trending technologies so that we can put those in our regulatory perspective”.

Danbatta said professionalism is one of the core values of NCC and it encourages and support its staff to join professional bodies of their choice, he called on the new chairman to make meaning contributions to the institution.

“As a stakeholder in the telecoms industry, I enjoin you to continue to make meaningful contributions to the progress of this industry, especially at our stakeholder’s engagement programmes.

“Electrical and Electronic Engineers play significant roles across all segments of the industry. At NCC in particular, Electrical and Electronics Engineers play crucial roles in the delivery of our regulatory mandates. Some of these include Frequency Spectrum administration and management, setting technical standards, carrying out devices type approvals, creating technical frameworks for the telecom industry taking cognizance of evolving technologies and operational models, carrying out devices type approval creating technical frameworks for the telecom industry taking cognisance of evolving technologies and operational models, carrying out monitoring activities amongst others”.

He tasked NIEEE to rise up and play a major role in the area of emerging technologies such as Block-chain Technology, Internet of Things, Artificial Intelligence, Cloud Computing & Big Data.

He further noted that the new national chairman of the association is has been afforded the opportunity by NCC to attend several trainings both locally and internationally over the years. It is our hope that part of the skill and knowledge he has acquired in the course of his duty at the Commission will be brought to bear in advancing the course of the institution, adding that the Commission is willing to partner with NIEEE in telecoms related programs where necessary and feasible.
