FCT health secretariat moves to curb drug abuse

As part of this year’s activities lined up to mark the 2020 International Day Against The FCT committee on Mis-Use of Drug and Illicit Drug Trafficking,

The FCT committee on Mis-Use of drug and trafficking has organised a sensitization campaign to address cases of drug abuse and others among school children in the territory.

At Government Secondary School, Karu, the acting secretary FCT health secretariat, Alhaji Abdulraheem Musa advised the students to steer clear of drug abuse in order not to jeopardize their future.

He said the campaign with the theme “HEALTH FOR JUSTICE, JUSTICE FOR HEALTH” was designed to raise awareness on the dangers of drugs abuse and the illicit trafficking among the youths.

The acting secretary added that the committee usually visits schools, market and motor parks to carry out awareness campaign on menace of drug abuse and for this year especially the choices for this school is very important and can not be over emphasis.

He maintained that the fight against drug misuse and illicit drug trafficking is not just the responsibility of health professionals but also that of government as well as communities, families , schools, civil society and religious organizations.

He said through enlightenment by parents, guardians, teachers, policy makers and youths in our schools, the development of drug misuse and risky behaviour can be controlled and prevented.

Musa stated that drug mis use and abuse have become very prevalent in the society especially school today and because information about the availability and types of drugs, method of ingestion and drug seeking practice are readily available but yet people don’t want to use this opportunities that often courses this Mis usage of drug.
