The Kebbi State governor, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar Bagudu has promised to give possible support to promote sport in the state.
This is contained in a statement by Alhaji Abubakar Dakingari, Chief Press Secretary to Gov. Atiku Bagudu, and made available to the Journalist in Birnin Kebbi on Tuesday.
Bagudu said ” priority will always be given to the development of sports to enable sports men and women from the state excel in their chosen field of endeavor.
According to statement Bagudu affirmed this at the Government House, Birnin Kebbi while receiving three trophies won by Kebbi State Beach soccer team at Laval ,National and International levels.
He urged the team to always be good ambassadors of the state, saying that the state government would continue to give maximum support to sports in the state.
” The governor noted that their success story was made possible due to their unrelenting and consistent efforts over the years. Whether in the Qur’an, Bible or any religious book, achievement is not earned by entitlement, it is earned through efforts.
“This will be good example for our youth that they should continue to keep on making efforts. Sometimes you lose, and sometimes you win. But, with your efforts, you can win at last,” he said.
He commended the State Ministry of Youth and Sport for ensuring Kebbi State ranked among the best soccer beach teams in the country which placed them first in Africa, 59th in the world.
The governor received trophy for Abuja Beach Soccer Tournament, Gwandu emirate cup and the best Arewa Sports Personality Aword (ASPAA)urging the team to sustain confidence to win more laurels .
The wife of governor, Dr. Zainab Shinkafi Bagudu ,remarked that the support provided by the Gov. Bagudu has started yielding dividend as kebbi State has something to be celebrated worldwide
Mrs Bagudu said sport promotion will cement friendship, healthcare, physical strength and prevent people from various illnesses due to exercise.
She expressed readiness to sustaining support to teams,club or association aimed at enabling Kebbi state excel in all facets of life.
The Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Mr Yakubu Maikyau and Acting Permanent Secretary of Youth and Sport ,Alhaji Usman Ladan said the soccess recorded and wonderful outing by the state in sport activities was as a result of the moral and material support by the governor , they urged the players not relent their efforts in capturing additional trophies for the State.
