COVID-19: NRC makes u-turn, says normal train services continues

The Nigerian Railway Corporation NRC, has said it will continue wirh train services on the Abuja Kaduna rail line affer its earlier announcement that it will suspend pasenger train services as from Monday, 23rd March 2020 in a bid to curtail the spread of the Covid 19 virus.

In a statement earlier released today, the Board and Management of the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC) had announced that it will stop all train operations due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

This directive which is supposed to take effect from Monday, 23, 2020 involves all the train services including Abuja-Kaduna line.

Recall that the Abuja to Kaduna train service has since witnessd a surge in the number of passengers who now prefer to travel to and from Abuja to Kaduna via the train due to security concerns .

IHowever, a new statement by the Corporation revealed that the Board and Management has reviewed the suspension of all passenger train services.

The NRC Deputy Director, Public Relations, Yakub Mahmood, noted that train services will now be provided with listed conditionalities.

The conditionalities will involve passengers providing full names, address, date of birth and means of identity.

According to him, “Further to the earlier statement, the board and management have reviewed the situation and decided to provide passengers train services with the listed conditionalities, passengers to provide full names, address, date of birth and means of identity.

“We enjoin all passengers to please cooperate with any other measures put in place to protect ourselves from ourselves”, he ended.
