‘I ‘ll quit politics in 2023’ – Senator Orji

*Denies nursing presidential ambition

From Steve Oko, Umuahia

The immediate past Governor of Abia State, and senator representing Abia Central senatorial district, Senator Theodore Orji, has refuted media reports that he is nursing presidential ambition come 2023.

Senator Orji described the media report as the handiwork of his detractors and mischief makers.

The former Governor in a press statement by his Chief Liaison Officer, Mr. Ifeanyi Umere, restated his earlier resolve to quit politics in 2023.

Orji expressed shock that his detractors could in their desperation to discredit him go to the extent of printing presidential campaign posters purportedly in his name.

He said there was no element of truth in the said report that he had any presidential ambition, and urged members of the public to disregard such report.

Orji flatly denied sponsoring and campaign posters for 2023 saying his detractors are behind the move to portray him in good light.

The statement read in part :”Our attention has been drawn to some posters adorning some streets in Umuahia and Aba purporting that Senator TA Orji is running for President come 2023.

“This is to let the public know that senator TA Orji is not running for any political position in 2023 as he has last year declared that he is quitting politics in 2023.

“Those behind this act are those who are not happy with the towering status of the former Abia Governor in national politics.

“Senator TA Orji is using this opportunity to assure his constituents that he will not be distracted by this latest antics of these political Lilliputans, as he will remain focused in delivering the dividends of democracy to the zone”.
