FAAN to pay full month salary for May

From Pearl Nwagama, Lagos

In line with the agreement reached in a recent meeting with unions in the Aviation Industry, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has agreed to pay full salary to its workers for the month of May.

Just recently, a memo from FAAN to all the staff dated May19, 2020 with reference: FAAN/HQ/Admin/2020/05 signed by the General Manager, Administration, M.D Musa stated that the Authority will not be able to pay workers full salary in the month of May.

“This is to notify all staff that due to the dwindling revenue generation amidst COVID19 pandemic, management may not be able to pay full salary to staff as from May 2020. “However, as soon as the revenue generation improves, the balance will be paid. This measure is to ensure the survival of the organisation,” the memo read.

In a swift reaction, the unions had a letter to the Management said they will not guarantee industrial harmony if a meeting was not called within 24 hours to discuss the memo sent to the staff that they will not able to pay their full salary due to dwindling revenue.

“We cannot guarantee industrial harmony and the consequences which may arise shall be put onto your door steps,” the Unions stated.

The unions include; Association of Nigerian Aviation Professional (ANAP), National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE), Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN) and National Union of Pensioners (NUP).

The unions in a joint statement announcing the agreement reached after the meeting said all airport workers will receive full payment of their salaries in the month of May.

“Full payment of May salary across all grade level while subsequent months will be subject to improvement in revenue generation,” the statement read.
