COVID-19 safety record in WASSCE to determine reopening of schools- FG

By Felix Khanoba

The Federal Government says the COVID-19 safety record that will be achieved in the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and other exams for exit classes would determine the next step to take on schools’ reopening date.

The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Education, Mr Sonny Echono, stated this while monitoring WASSCE in schools in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

He said reports reaching him in the last couple of days from the 104 Federal Government Colleges (unity schools) in the country showed there has been zero record of COVID-19 infection or suspected cases in any of the colleges.

A statement made available to The AUTHORITY by Ben Bem Goong, Director of Press in the Ministry, said the Permanent Secretary commended principals of the colleges over the sound implementation of COVID-19 protocols.

He urged all school authorities to keep to the strict enforcement of COVID-19 protocols in their areas of jurisdiction to maintain the present status.
