From Angela Mbaoma, Abakaliki

Member representing Ezza North- Ishielu federal constituency, in the national assembly, Hon. Edwin Nwonu, has dispelled speculations that the federal lawmakers from the state are at loggerhead with Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi state.

Nwonu said that the national assembly members are solidly behind the governor and that they have a cordial relationship.
He made the disclosure while distributing motorcycles to the 31 Town Union Presidents in his constituency as part of his campaign promises.

The federal lawmaker urged Ebonyians to disregard any speculation that governor Umahi was having a face off with them.

“That is a rumour and I don’t believe it. As far as am concerned, National Assembly members in the state are solidly behind the Executive Governor of the state and we are working cordially with him, we are very close with the Governor”, he stated.

The lawmaker who is the Chairman, House Committee on Correctional Facilities in the House of Representatives, also said the committee will present a comprehensive report to the National Assembly after visiting all the Correctional Centres across the country.

He said the Committee was visiting the Correctional Centres to ensure that the Centres were put in order and that it has so far visited the Centres in South South, North Central, North East and North West.

Nwonu stated that Correctional Facilities in the country were living up to expectation of reforming inmates.

“we have visited South South, North Central, North East, North West. So far, so good. We are going to write our comprehensive report to the National Assembly after the whole visit to make sure that we put our Correctional Facilities in order.

“To be sincere, I have to commend the current Comptroller General. He has done a lot to make sure that the Correctional Services are being what they supposed to be today. Before now when they called them prisons, it looks like a death zone . But today, our Correctional Centres are being a place of reform, where you can be reformed and by the special grace of God, after putting up our reports, the correctional centres in Nigeria will completely look a very new face”, he noted.
