Gunmen set INEC officeablaze in Imo

Someunknown gunmen on Sunday set ablaze the newly-completed office of theIndependent National Electoral Commission (INEC) located at Okwudor communityin Njaba Local Government Area of Imo State.

INECdisclosed this in a statement by Festus Okoye, the INEC National Commissioner& Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee.

Accordingto Okoye, the arson attack took place at about 11:30am.

Theoffice, which was built and commissioned shortly before the 2019 generalelections, was substantially burnt.

Althoughno life was lost, electoral materials, office equipment and furniture wereburnt in the incident.

Theattack comes less than seven days after the INEC office in Ahiazu Mbaise LocalGovernment Area of the State was vandalized.

Itis also the eighth INEC office to be attacked in Imo since the 2019 generalelection.
