The National Youth Congress for Better Nigeria (NYCBN) on Wednesday claimed they have uncovered plans by former President Olusegun Obasanjo to destabilise Nigeria.
They accused the former president of holding a series of secret meetings, designed to invite hate against President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.
The group while addressing a Press Conference at Prince Hotel, Kano, on Wednesday, accused President Obasanjo of plot to hold a meeting on Thursday with the sole objective of destabilizing the country.
NYCBN National President Ali Wali and Secretary-General Kola Williams, flanked by other top members, told journalists that, from intelligence they gathered, Obasanjo has plotted to hold a meeting with Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) on Thursday with the aim of inciting the people against the President Muhammadu Buhari administration.
Wali who spoke on behalf of the group, observed that though Nigeria was plunged into several challenges, particularly security challenge, the group had expected former President Obasanjo and other leaders to brain storm on how to tackle the challenges rather than, resorting to plots to disorganize the Federal Government, and put the country into disarray.
According to Wali, the group, which has over 65 percent representation across the country, is disappointed in the latest activities of former President Obasanjo and his cohorts.
They, however, blamed the insecurity and other troubles confronting Nigeria on Obasanjo, insisting that the ex-president led the country twice as a soldier and civilian but rather than build, he laid the foundation for further decay.
“This country has never been subjected to much damage than the 16 years PDP held power, out of which Obasanjo led for eight years.
Wali stated that, “Obasanjo blatantly created and nurtured some of these problems plaguing Nigeria to overwhelming limits, with successive administrations feeling most of the heat emanating from these problems.”
The gave instances of Obasanjo’s, “third term agenda the Odi and Zaki Biam massacres and 16$ billion power project as some of the ‘evils’ of the Obasanjo legacy.”
Wali, however, urged the people against backing Obasanjo to “destroy” the country, adding that, “only enemies of this country will join hands with such a person to further damage Nigeria.
“Obasanjo had two chances to fix Nigeria’s problems but he blew it for selfish gains. As we speak, he has not apologised to the nation, instead, he has opted to write letters and create problems for the present administration that is trying very hard to tackle the problems he planted.
“We have on good authority that Obasanjo has invited civil society organisations for talks with the aim to destabilise the already unstable nation. For us, this is a proactive measure, because we have no other country to run to when war breaks.”
