By Myke Uzendu, Abuja

A foremost economist and Presidential Aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has disclosed that he is bothered by the future of the country insisting that the problems bedeviling the country are real, deep and profound.

The Borno state technocrat turned politician said that he was a presidential adviser to three presidents, chairman of a committee on economy during the Buhari transition where he chaired the committee that articulated a report on finance and economy for the President but lamented that the efforts of his committee did not go beyond the Presidential archive where it is gathering dust.

“Nigeria today is in very serious trouble. As far as am concerned the issues that face the country are real, are deep and profound.  I know what it takes to put people to deliver on the mandate of the Nigerian people, people with integrity.

“As an economists and haven gotten experience in dealing with issues, I think I have an understanding of what to do to settle the Nigerian issue. I have been a presidential adviser to three presidents, I was chairman of a committee on economy during the Buhari transition and we put in a beautiful report on finance and economy.

“I was chairman of the Nigeria economic summit group. The five of us met, we have been discussing among ourselves, so we decided to form this group, our concern bothered more on the future of the country and the common threats, the unity for the country, we must bring Nigeria together.

“Am not your classic politician, am a technocrat, all my life I have gotten things done. I have worked in major institutions as chief executive officers and I understand quite a few issues. I understand why certain nations succeed and why some fail, I understand what it takes for a nation to be great, successful. I understand change management and I have been a turnaround Manager”.

On the issue of zoning, the Presidential hopeful said that he does not care where the next President comes from as long as he able to provide the needed leadership.

“Muhammad Hayatudeen does not care who governs this country. What matters to me is: does this person has what it takes in terms of his personality, character. Is he knowledgeable about the issues in the country, is he aware of what is happening around the world and does he have the energy and imagination, commitment to deliver to the people a very high quality of life, represented by high level of employment, stability in prices in terms of inflation, the people can have a roof over their head, they can sleep in their homes, safely and peaceful, they can feel safe and secured on the streets, on the highway. Their kids can get a good quality education. Create an economy that is globally competitive. I don’t care the colour and tribe of the person am going to vote for the person”.

He said that his administration will invest more on “intelligence assets”, increase the welfare of the military, embark on an overhaul of the security architecture in the country to ensure that the entire country is fully secured.

Meanwhile, members of the Brekete family, owners of the Human Rights Radio and Television under the leadership of Ordinary President Ahmed Isa purchased a N40 million Expression of Interest and Nomination forms for the Akwa Ibom state governor, Dr. Udom Emmanuel.

Led by Innocent Orji, members of Brekete family who beseeched the PDP National Secretariat in their numbers said that the group resolved to sponsor about 10 Presidential aspirants irrespective of their political affiliation so that they will save them from the temptation of being hijacked by money bags, a situation that have crippled politicians from delivering on their social contract with the people.

Addressing journalists after the procurement exercise, Orji also known as Daddy Scaffold narrated the message from the ordinary president that motivated the development. “He said, we the Brekete family globally will purchase forms for 10 nominees, that’s presidential forms. Each person that want to participate must have outstanding antecedents and we must purchase the form; that is the only, the best way to say enough of all this and you must give account of your stewardship. We are starting from this particular person today. That’s why we purchased one today for the person of Dr. Emmanuel Udom of Akwa Ibom state”.

Narrating the circumstances that made the Brekete family to include the Akwa Ibom state governor on its list Orji continued,

“When he came to Human right radio and television for the program Brekete, he came on his own and he presented all he has done within his short time in the States, you people can testify to that, we don’t believe until we’ll see. So we decided to do proper investigation on our own.

“We traveled to Akwa Ibom and saw everything that he said, and we even discovered that there are many he didn’t mention. As a result of that, we are of the opinion that if he can do that, in his own state, we have the opinion that he will do even better in Nigeria as a whole. Based on this, we said we are nominating him, that we will purchase this form for his presidential nomination come 2023. That is the only way we can make this country a better place.  So the idea of holding somebody accountability will take place because if we joined together and put him there, no one person in any form or shape will claim ownership that he installed him, that he is the one that paid for him”.

The group said that they did not consult Gov. Udom before making such move but added that they are optimistic that he will not reject the gesture as he has a proven track record.

“Well, like I said, we don’t need to seek anybody’s opinion. If we see that you are doing well, we need to back you up, we need to stand by you because if you see somebody climbing and you know that the person can get to the top with push, all you need to do, all you need to do is to push the person. With that encouragement, he will surely get to the top” Orji stated.
