Group hails IGP Usman Alkali over mass promotion for police personnel

The Global Peace Movement International, UK an anti corruption crusader with membership across 25 countries of the world hails the Inspector General of Nigerian Police Force, Usman Baba Alkali over promotion package for personnel of the Force.

President General of the group, Dr. Mike Uyi in a statement on Monday issued in London said their is no better policing when men and officers of the force are not encouraged to do their work.

Uyi noted that in every country of the world, the police have the primary responsibility of taking care of the internal security and as such must be accorded the respect they deserve to boost day to day security.

Uyi describes Baba, who is the 21st indigenous Inspector General of Police as ‘a man of focus and visionary leadership’.

‘The distinguished police boss has shown commitment to staff welfare through the barrack redevelopment scheme and the establishment of affordable housing for officers. Officers, both serving and retired, have also been captured along with their families for the National Health Insurance Scheme, while the Police Medical Services is improving its services with the construction of more police hospitals”, Uyi noted.

Uyi said further said their is need to strengthen the capacity of the police to understand their roles in the survival of Nigeria democracy by upholding the tenets of police accountability and respect for human rights which, among others, define democratic policing.

“GPMI believes that the mass promotion will enable the personnel of the police force to double their dedication to deliver quality internal security to the citizens of Nigeria”.

He concluded that the Nigerian Police Force deserves the best and calls on stakeholders to join hands with the current leadership of IGP Usman Baba Alkali to move the force to an enviable position to compete with their counterparts around the world.
