2023: Prof Ugwu joins race for Enugu North Senatorial seat

A front line politician in Enugu state since the onset of the fourth republic politics, and a founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Professor Godsmark Eddy Ugwu, has declared his intention to run for the 2023 Enugu North district senatorial election on the platform of the PDP.

Professor Ugwu who has successfully filled and submitted his senatorial nomination form to the PDP national secretariat in Abuja, told newsmen he is more qualified than any other aspirant to represent Enugu North senatorial district in the red chamber (senate) in 2023,based on his pedigree and experience as a political scientist cum political administrator.

In addition, Professor Ugwu said that the zoning principle which has become an active ingredient in the state politics favours Nsukka/Igbo Eze South federal constituency, where he hails from.

According to him, the present Enugu North district senator, Barr Chuka Utazi will complete his two terms in office in 2023, and the lot falls on Nsukka/Igbo South axis to produce the next senator of Enugu North senatorial zone.

He advised that no group or persons no matter how highly placed should truncate the zoning principle to avoid the truncate of political peace and harmony currently prevailing in Enugu state.

If eventually elected as the next senator of Enugu North senatorial zone, Professor Ugwu promised to bring his experience to bear on the floor of the red chambers by offering qualitative representation to his senatorial zone, Enugu state and Nigeria in general.

He assured that his constituency projects will make impact on social and economic wellbeing of his constituents through educational empowerment, development of rural roads, agricultural loans and support to rural farmers, revitalization of

Adada dam project, among others.

Professor Ugwu, who retired as a professor of public administration, commended the Enugu state Governor, Hon Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for the various development strides he achieved as governor of the state in the past seven years in addition to his quality representation as a federal lawmaker who represented Udenu/Igbo Eze North federal constituency prior to his election as governor of Enugu state. Professor Ugwu promised to add to the achievements of Ugwuanyi in Enugu North district and Enugu state if elected.
