Governorship Aspirants in the 2023 gubernatorial election in Rivers State, Senator Magnus Abe has described the former Lagos State Governor, Ahmed Bola Tinubu as a killer punch that can deliver the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming presidential election.
Abe who is aspiring the governorship position under the platform of APC in Rivers, insisted that Tinubu has the quality and capacity to retain the party at the presidency in 2023.
The Rivers State Guber aspirant made the assertion yesterday, during the APC stakeholders meeting fronted by the Ahmed Bola Tinubu Support Vanguard for members in Obio/Akpor and Port Harcourt Local Government Areas.
Abe stressed the need for APC not to miss the opportunity of clinching both the governorship seat in Rivers and presidential position.
He explained that his interest in Tinubu was not because he would support his ambition but because he found him the right person that can salvage Nigeria with good leadership.
“I have told you people, I am supporting Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu and the reason I am supporting him is that I looked at all those who are running, those who claimed they have done this or that and I saw that Asiwaju is the person in the APC that can deliver that killer punch that will keep the party in power after Buhari. That is why I followed him.
“I am not being sentimental, he did not tell me he is going to support me, I supported him because I want to win. I know that I cannot afford to be in the periphery of government in the next eight years.
“For you here in Rivers State your own situation is even more dyer than my own. You must take a decision that will affect your own life substantially.
“Whether Asiwaju becomes the candidate of APC or not, if am the candidate of the party here in Rivers State, I will still run for the brick house and I will still win. But if you go and pick a candidate whose future is tie to another candidate, if that candidate does not win, he cannot stand and say he wants to run.”
Abe challenged APC Members in the state that in making choice of candidate at the state primaries, they should consider who will deliver the party at the governorship election.
He said: “Government is about you, the government should be your own. If you want the government you desire, government that will put you first, you yourself must get up and fight for what you want.
“For us to take a decision that will place our interest first, in doing so we must pick a candidate for Rivers APC that is sure to deliver the Brick house to the party.
“People have talk about tribe or no tribe because I feel that those conversations decide Rivers people unnecessarily and this our party cannot continue to be further divided.
“I stand here today to promise us as members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) that if you give me your support and you do what is necessary to understand that we have the opportunity that we desire, I want to assure you that we will lead you to victory.
Today, we in the APC, we are in a much worst position than PDP was when Mrs Patience Goodluck Jonathan delivered Wike for Rivers. We have nothing, no Senate, no Political office, no money, no cohesion, no peace, no unity, no togetherness. We must look for somebody who can do what nobody else could be able to do”, Abe challenged.
