World Children’s Day: UNICEF Calls For Quick Passage Of Child Protection Bill In Kano

…As Kannywood Team Beats Children Team In Novelty Football Match

The Kano Field Office of UNICEF has appealed to Kano State House of Assembly to ensure quick passage of the child protection bill into law, to pave way for development and welfare of children in the state.

The UNICEF, Chief of Kano field office,Rahama Farah who stated this during a novelty football match between Kannywood actors and a team of selected Kano school children to mark the World Children Day in the state, said the passage of the bill will help in guaranteeing a better future for the Kano child.

According to him, the theme of the event: “Discrimination, Exclusion and Inequality,” remain very timely for the protection of children’s right in the state.

“In Kano, Katsina and Jigawa States, many children are still out of school, don’t have rights to access education, nutrition, birth certificates, they are deprived of their basic rights.

“We (community leaders, policy makers and others) have to put our hands together on deck to protect the rights of the children.

“I will take this opportunity, to call on the Kano State government and the members of the house of assembly to enact the law that protects the children. We have a pending bill that needs to be passed into law in Kano State. We encourage the parliamentarian to facilitate the passage of the bill into law because we believe that will guarantee the protection of the rights of children in Kano state,” Farah said.

Also, a famous Kannywood actor, Ali Nuhu backed the call to protect the rights of the children whom he described as leaders of tomorrow.

The Director of Planning, Kano State Quoranic and Islammyya Schools Management Board, Muhammad ibn Alhassan, commended UNICEF for investing hugely in the welfare and development of children in the state.

He,, however, tasked children to remain focused, determined and hardworking so as to achieve their goals in life.

The AUTHORITY reports that the novelty football tournament played at the Lebanon Club turf ended 4 – 2 in favour of the Kannywood team.
