From Salisu Zakari Maradun, Gusau

Tsafe town, the headquarters of Tsafe Local Government of Zamfara state is in jubilation mood as thousands of well wishers, friends and relatives stormed the town to pay a sympathy visit to the former minister of communication, Alhaji Ikra Aliyu Bilbis after his release from prison custody.

It could be recalled that about three weeks ago the former minister was arrested on the order of the government of the state over a allegation leveled against him of having a hand in the destruction of APC billboards.

The minister was first taken to a magistrate court in Gusau capital of the state where the court refused to entertain the case and subsequently proceeded to the shariah court which sat for the case and thereafter ordered his remand in prison.

The release of the Bilbis, who is also the senatorial candidate under the opposition PDP for Zamfara central senatorial zone, brought about jubilation and celebration by thousands of people across the state generally.

Aliyu Bilbis, whose popularity has increased as a result of what many people described as an unlawful arrest and detention was described as the hero of the year by many people who spoke with The Authority in Tsafe town.

Malan Abdulkadir M. Kabiru, a resident of the town and who was one of the thousands of the well-wishers of the victim told our reporter that the action taken by those behind the unlawful arrest has added more blessing to the victim.

According to him, the intimidation and insult against the senatorial candidate was a sign of victory, adding that “they thought it was the right thing to do but they helped him in getting more people and let me tell you. (referring to this our reporter), even if they did not release him, his continued stay in the prison will not make him to lose at the polls, because we have already made up our minds to vote for him.”
People from all the three senatorial zones of the state, at the time of filling this report were trooping into the residence of the former minister to sympathize with him over the unfortunate incident.
