Kano: “I Work For Violent-Free, Credible Elections”—–Commissioner of Police

Kano State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Mamman Dauda, has debunked allegations by a political party, that he is being partisan ahead of the February and March general elections in the state.

CP Dauda who is also the co-chairman of the state Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES), described the allegations by the leadership of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), as unfounded.

He, however, declared his determination. to keep discharging his constitutional duties as the Commissioner of Police In the state, without fear or favour.

According to him, “in an effort to sanitize and gave way for a peaceful 2023 General Elections in the state, Threat Analysis was conducted in series of Inter-Afency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) meetings.

“Based on the analysis, criminal hideouts and black spots, as well as, known criminals were identified.

“The Command carried out vigorious raids of this criminal hideouts and black spots, arrested known criminals that may likely disrupt the election processes and recover large cache of weapons and illicit drugs from them.”

The police boss, who spoke to Journalists at the Police Officers’ Mess, on Monday, said the Command has arrested well over 364 suspects for various offences ranging from kidnapping, armed robbery, political thuggery, drug dealing, among other crimes, between January 1 to February 20, 2023.

He further stated that out of the number so far arrested, 248 suspects were charged to court for prosecution, while 116 suspects are still undergoing investigation.

The police boss said his officers and men have been recording arrests of political thugs across all political parties in the State, adding that no amount of blackmail or intimidation will deter the police from carrying out their duties.

He further stated that: “The Kano State Police Command, in conjunction with other security agencies in the state, have mapped out strategies and is committed to ensuring free, fair, credible, transparent and successful 2023 general elections.

“We thank the good people of Kano state for their prayers, continuous support, encouragement and cooperation.

“Rigorous patrol and raids of criminal hideouts and black spots will continue throughout the state, as the Command will sustain the ongoing Operation Restore Peace that has been yielding fabulous results.

“We have to make it categorically clear that criminals will have no hiding place in Kano state.

“They are advised to either repent or leave the state completely as no stone will be left unturned as far as ensuring peaceful 2023 general election is concerned.”

CP Dauda also used the opportunity to distribute cheques to the relatives and family members of slain police men, who lost their lives on the course of duty.

CP Dauda said the cheques which came in different amounts of N500, 000, N250, 000, N53, 000 and N32,000, as the cases could be, was the initiative of the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Alkali Baba, who has shown his commitment to the welfare of police officers.

He charged the beneficiaries to use the money judiciously and prayed that God shall grant, “our heroes past eternal rest.”
