The leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress(NLC) and its affiliates unions in Kano state has commended Kano State Governor,  Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje assenting to the recent amendment of the State Pension and Gratuity Law (2006) which provides for the elongation of retirement age to 65 years and length of service to 40 years for all civil servants in the State with effect from February 3, 2023.

The commendation was conveyed  by the Overseeing Chairman of Kano NLC, Comrade Ado Salisu Riruwai to Goveenor Ganduje on Wednesday during a thank-you visit at the Coronation Hall, Government House, Kano.

According to him,  “as the election draws nearer, we are optimistic that you would maintain and sustain the worker-friendly antecedents and disposition that you have built over the years so that workers would continue to remember you as the best Governor who brought about the best policies and programmes that positively touched the lives of the citizens.”

The Chairman further stated that, “the Congress also appreciates the State Government’s effort for lifting the embargo on employments and replacement which is also key to addressing the gap between service exit and payment of retirement benefits to retired civil servants in the State.”

He, however, urged the workers to reciprocate the gesture by being more productive and committed in the discharge of their duties and responsibilities.

Ganduje who was represented by his Deputy and the All Progressive Congress (APC)  gubernatorial candidate, Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, assured that Kano State Government would do more towards improving the welfare of the workers.

He also commended the NLC for appreciating the efforts of the State Government for approving the elongation of the retirement age and years of service for workers.

In his remarks, the State Head of Service, Alhaji Usman Bala Muhammad thanked the NLC leadership for the industrial peace and harmony enjoyed between them and  Kano State Government.

Meanwhile,   Ganduje has congratulated the state NLC chairman, Comrade Kabiru Ado Minjibir and two other Kano indigenes for emerging national officers of NLC in the just concluded National Delegates Conference of NLC held in Abuja.

He urged them to be good ambassadors of Nigerian workers and Kano state.

Those elected are the current Kano State Chairman of the NLC, Comrade Kabiru Ado Minjibir as National Deputy President, Comrade Marwan Mustapha Adamu, the current National President of Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN),  as National Financial Secretary and Comrade Garba Ibrahim,  President of Beverages Union,  as Internal Auditor.

“On behalf of the government and people of Kano state, I am congratulating our noble sons for emerging as National Officers of the vibrant labour union, the NLC.

“The fact that Kano state produced more officers than any other state, shows that, you are really committed to the welfare of your members,” Ganduje stated.

He assured that they would be supported to have successful tenure and urged them to prove their mettle wherever they find themselves.
