The Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) on Wednesday began mobilization of its stakeholders for a successful Census slated for May by the National Population Commission across the country.
Speaking at the interactive session with Civil Society Organisations on the theme: ‘The Imperative of Community Mobilization for 2023 Census’ the chairman, Hon. Christopher Maikalangu said the council will work closely with traditional and religious leaders to achieve a better result.
Maikalangu, who was represented by the council secretary, Alhaji Jafaru Gwagwa, said necessary measures have been put in place for a hitch free census.
He promised to private adequate security for the census exercise in all the twelve political wards of AMAC.
Maikalangu direct the monarchs to start sensitizing of their followers on the significance of Census.
In his presentation, Professor Philip Dahida said the census would help provide accurate data that will aid developing in the council and beyond.
“You can make a case that FCT should be given more constituencies after the 2023 census.The exercise is a national issue that will must take it serious, it will help to provide accurate data that will help in planning.
“AMAC should properly engaged religious and community leaders periodically to inform them on the need for having accurate data. There should be town hall meetings to keep the residents abreast of the things needed during the Census”
In his remarks, the District head of Kuchigoro in Garki Chiefdom, Umar Maikasuwa commended AMAC for the initiative.
